Spring Valley/Hilshire Village

I have been looking at apartments in this area as I plan on moving here for school. Are these areas nice (not the hood). I currently live in the subs of NJ, I would like to livein an affordable but safe area. A nice area, are these two listed good areas in Houston? I see already that these prices are really inexpensive compared to Jersey, so I have o idea how to base it on, so I am asking you guys that are from the area.

How are the jobs out there, I need to work around my school schedule which cuts out the chances of a 9-5 job, like I have now (CAD Operator/Designer for an Engieering Consultant firm).

TIA,
Luigi

i can't think of any apt. in the nice part of spring valley(most are exp. homes). i think you;ll be suprised at the low cost of living vs NJ.

btw, i teach the motorcycle class in the Spring Valley area.

it's gonna be hard to get a job on your school schedule. we just hired 3 new cadd peeps, but they all finished school.

lotta engineering here in houston, but they're full time jobs.

Like racer said not many apts. I know of either. But very good area for the most part. Don't think there is anything real safe in Houston. Little lacksy daisy on enforcing laws. Go HPD. Too worried about being pegged for racial profiling. Go democrats. N - S stay between westveiw and san felipe.

nice area. not a very central location, but its probably safer and less congested.

my family from NY is amazed at the low cost of living here also. you also have to kind of expect you won't be making as much $

I expect that, I am going there and picing up anything I can find on job listings. I amassuming I may have to start at a retail gig to have some kind of income. I may even take a loan out before I move to cover my back. I may be there at the end of June, trying to gather as much info as possible. I really don't mind if the area is not happening, I would prefer that. I just need an area I won't here music blasting at night or during the day for that matter, a place where no one is hanging out on the corner, somewhere safe and nice. i just need to go there for 18 months and come right back. I am thinking if I should buy a house, fix it up while I am there and sell it before I leave. ( just something I thought of while typing this)

the school is S.A.M. (School of Automotive Machinist) I believe it is on Antonie Blvd, so I would like to stay close by, but in a nice area. No more than $575 and I would like to see if I can get one with a washer/drier unit in the apartment or complex. I do not need a pool, I need parking space, one bed room is fine.
