Mex-Trek 2009 Oct 14 - 18th

For anyone interested in a long weekend trip to the mountains in northern Mexico, there is an organized ride on Two Wheeled Texans. This ride offers the great advantage of going in a nice organized group, pre-run routes, hotels ready for bikes.

Mextrek 2008 reports:

http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthre...hlight=mextrek

Upcoming 2009 ride:

http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41336

It's mainly for dual sport bikes, but the location has many many great motorcycling roads for street bikes as well. I'm gonna be there, can't decide for sure if on the DRZ-SM or my 1000. If you wanna tag along, you'll need the following, and about $500 in cash:

Trailer to get to the border.
Passport to come back.
Valid US license
Clear title in your name to your bike, or lien holder permission to take a bike with a lien to Mexico
Mexican temporary insurance, purchased at the border

Here are some you-tube videos of the riding around the mountains south of Monterrey, near Galeana, the Mextrek HQ. Looks like fun. I've only driven down there in a car, but it is SWEET. So who wants to go???

You couldn't pay me to go to Mexico right now...

That aside.

Haven't seen the thread. Have been to Monterrey several times 10+ years ago.

I'm sure it is a bit more crowded now but still the Autopista from Larado to Montrey was 4 lanes of German autobohn. Flat the fruck out through the mountains. If it's on the old switch back highway... good luck to ya...

Awesome weekend. It's sad how many are influenced by the media about safety in Mexico. Ya'll missed out.
