Havent really touched it to be honest.

I discovered through playing w the alarm I may be able to make the remote start work.

But I was awaiting parts from Honda then they didnt order 2 of the fuel T fittings but only one and a vent T.

I do now have the parts for the carbs so it is time to start reassembly after I strip down the carbs again. From here on out it will be multiple stops to the hardware store for random things

+1 on the hardware store Matt. CarQuest usually carry a good stock of metric hardware also in case you were not aware. Plus other things that you can stick on bikes.

Got it all together, checked the ground for the fan to make sure it would turn on when the coolant got hot(coolant gauge doesnt work yet.) I added some fuel to a small funnel I continually replenished so I can adjust the carb sync as needed. Battery was on a tender to keep it going.

Everything went fine, idled for a good 15 minutes or so as I checked for leaks etc. The exhaust is loud lol... I may have to get one of ebay and gut/modify it as usual lol.

I took everything off, installed the air filter housing and the gas tank. Filled the tank, continued to run the bike. I wanted to check the carbs so started holding the throttle at 1500rpms and noticed a knock I didnt hear before. I couldnt tell if it was upper or lower end. But after revving to 5krpms, I can now tell you the knock is lower end and now constant. Not too familiar w motorcycles but rebuilding engines for the last 10yrs I'd say its a rod knock.

I do know through conversation the previous owners did a manual chain tensioner and adjusted the valves. If I can get it towed to Motorcycles Unlimited I'd like them to look at it and hopefully find something easy like that. But Im not holding any faith in it.

So that is where the project will stand for now.

So otra599 showed up at the shop w his truck today, we loaded the bike onto the truck using the alignment rack lol.

BigUgly1, the-_-asian, Otra599 and myself invaded Motorcycles Unlimited and dropped the bike off for some comprehensive timing checks.

I know my stepchild is in good hands

Apparently it has a V.Hines ignition rotor. I was unaware.

Just talked to Motorcycles Unlimited...

When the cams were installed w the a/m ignition rotor the intake and the exhaust were off by one tooth each. There is a rod knock and at times its so severed the piston is contacting the head.

so now its a matter of whether its even worth rebuilding w all the potential scrap in the oil galleries/fixing the crank/replacing rods/oil pump etc vs finding a used engine.

I suppose there is no such thing as a budget build
