kewl, thanks. Hopefully I'll be home for the spring event. Bike should be well tuned and sorted out by then. Lots of $$$ to spend in the meantime tho..

Do they have an old fat guy class?

Yeah its the same class I'm in.... Maybe I can make you an Honorary member of TFA....(Team Fat )....Funny that you have a ZX12, as both of the founding members of TFA have/race ZX12s. One is a 1427cc all motor that runs 210mph in a mile with a 60 yr old, 240lb rider, the other is a 1270 with spray that runs 205mph or so in a mile with a 30 something, 250+ lb rider.... You'll fit RIGHT in...

kewl.. mine is a stock motored 2000 model wih full Yoshi exhaust, BMC filters, and a PC III, down a tooth in front. In the process of adding 4-6 extensions, lowering, DJ quick shifter, Muzzy clutch and a 40 dry shot. Figure to get it dyno tuned and then go play at Sealy and Baytown to remember how to ride these things.

Also have a shift light, GiPro and a tether kill in the works.

I'll have to pick their brains a bit on gearing before I go to the Mile, because I plan to go up a couple teeth on the back for the drags.

Gearing wise what would be best for the Mile for a 600?

Hard to say, most are geared to do around 160 or so I think. Unless you've took it out to redline in 6th you don't know if it will pull a taller gear or not. I imagine you would want to go down a couple teeth on the back at least.

I'll have to pick their brains a bit on gearing before I go to the Mile, because I plan to go up a couple teeth on the back for the drags.

Yeah you can hit them up about the gearing. I would say if you are making 175hp on motor and another 40hp on dope, you will probably need to start at like a 18/40. That gearing is good to about 205mph or so....depends on where your rev limiter kicks in. You may need a 41 if you can't pull the 40 OR the wind is really bad. If you are topping it out, you may need 18/39..... Its a guessing game.

I know on my bike 18/42 will get me 199mph(GPS) with a 10,800 limiter and its on the limiter. Thats with an almost new 190/50. The 12Rs rev a bit higher I believe so you may go faster with the same gearing....I am not sure of the differences in the ratios of a ZX12 6th gear and a busa 6th gear. I know Karl is a sprocket changing at the mile with the 1427 bike.....Just bring several sprockets.

As for drag racing, that ZX12 will straight up fly on the drag strip with the right gearing setup etc. Back in 01-02, I was doing battle with the ZX12s every friday night....Most were trapping in the high 140s with only a pipe/tuning/filters/gearing and a 180lb rider... I had to put cams in my bike to run with em on the big end. Highly under rated bikes those ZX12s were. A b*tch to work on though.

yup, most are running a 17/47 or 48 for the 1/4 and trapping high 140's with just a pipe and tune, and lowered. I also have a Shinko 003 in a 200 size to go on, so we'll see what she'll do.

I'll also pick the brains of the Kawi forum guys, since there are a few that do Maxton and the Texas Mile with similar bikes.

Hit up Entropy over at www.bikeland.com, he is in the Dragbike forum. I think he is a mod there. Entropy is Karl, the guy with the 1427 ZX12. You can ask him. He knows ZX12s like the back of his hand. He literally pulls his motor out 4-5 times a year and rebuilds it with different combos. He knows EVERYTHING there is to know about a ZX12. He has ran 8.70s all motor on his, then ran 218mph on it at the 1.5 mile race at Loring Maine a couple weeks ago. Tell him I sent you. He will likely want to kill you because I am the one that got him hooked on drag racing in the first place.

If you think you might go, you need to sign up NOW! They only have like 40-spots left open out of 160 and registration has been open barely a week.

It will be nice to see some 600's out. You hardly ever see anyone racing them...

I'm trying to decide whether to take one bike or two.

Thanks.
If you aren't making any changes to the bike, you could probably get 15+ runs in hot lapping. The problem is so much bad a$$ stuff that you end up walking around and checking everything out. By the time you talk with all the great people and eat you might get 6-10 (per-day) unless you only plan to race and don't site see...

Yes you need a kill switch with a lanyard. Appropriately called the "Dead Man's Switch"....
