Sold cars for Gullo Mazda for a while. You only save 2 MPG city for the V6 versus the 4 cylinder. IMO, the 6 cylinder is the way to go. It has the 5 speed auto vs. the 4 banger's 4 spd auto, both with shiftronic functions. At about 70 the 4 cyl is revving at about 3600 rpms which can get a bit annoying at times. The 6 cyl is a lower revving engine because of the extra gear.

The pros for the 6 cyl are:
Better tranny (extra gear)
Most come with the Grand touring pkg (ground effects)
Nicer A/C controls
Avail BOSE system. (comes with moonroof pkg)
17" wheels vs 16 on 4 cyl
pwr seat available
better resale (if that can be said about Mazda. They typically have no resale value).

had a1997 626 Mazda for a total of 5 yrs. only broke down on me once when i filled up with some bad gas.. Otherwise was a dependable ride.. 5 speed manual with a inline 4 cyl. and only got 1500 dollars on a trade in at Ron Carter.. Got to say , the car was good.
