To Track It Or Not To Track It?

Ok well I have my r1 which I love its a great bike but lately after taking the sv to the track.. Riding the r1 on the street is just plain boring... I would love to take the r1 to the track but dont want to do the tape up job.. I would be if it went down because it was a one year paint job and is kind of tough finding replacement fairings.. I have some engine mods (velocity stacks, power commander, smog block offs, bmc race filter exhaust, gutted cat x up valve removed 520 chain conversion with a plus one on the rear.. but now im wondering why did I waste money on that without wanting to put it to where I could tell a difference.. So would u ride the sv which is total track of should I sell that and invest all that money into the r1 and pull it from the street.. or should I sell the sv and look for a track ready r6 of gsxr 600..

You'll burn tires on the 1000 like nobody's business.
Keep it for the streets and ride the outta her.
Once I fix up my 636, I wanna sell/trade it and get an SV.

The only time I enjoyed the R1 was in the straights.
Thing had no down low and the power would come on too hard up top.
Not a bad street bike, but did'nt suit me for the track.
Traded it for a RC51 and never looked back.

I tried to fix the midrange power on it with the velocity stacks and the smog block offs plus my powercommander.. your right though it doesnt come on till 8000 rpms... and when it does the front wheel flutters or it will just rise up.. hard to keep it in a good powerband..

You'll regret tracking the R1

If power is what you want Nick, sell the SV and buy a 600rr for the track.

Im only 22 and I worked my off to get that r1. When I was a junior in highschool I went in and on the showroom floor they had that bike. I had wanted it ever since and decided when I had enough money I was going to buy that bike in that color.. It would make sense to get rid of her but I just cant.. Its like some guys save up for a corvette or what not.. The r1 was something I always dreamed off when I was riding my yamaha seca II when I was about 16..

If there's nothing wrong with the SV, and you won't get rid of the R1, I wouldn't change a thing. R1 street, SV track; easy decision IMHO.

I'd still be on my/ an SV for track days if I wasn't teaching. The only reason I have a 750 is because sometimes I have to work with folks on liter bikes and on the SV I may miss them for a corner or two with straights; which is simply frustrating but not a real problem.

I still prefer the SV for racing, and next year will probably be back on one in endurance for that reason.

yeah I love the sv its a great bike and it will be around for a little while.. I just really want to ride an inline on the track to see the major differences and determine if I would make the switch.

The r-1 is to nice and to much money to destroy, unless you have money to burn or are done with the street sell the sv and get an inline, size is up to you.

You can ride mine if you just want to know. IMHO, the inlines are not all that impressive. Once you get past the shear terror of knowing that at any time they can spit you on your head with one wrong right hand action, it's just like any other bike.

It took me a LONG time to get faster on my first GSXR600 (which had about 20 or so more hp than my SV) because it's tough to make that transition from VT to I4 IMHO. I can still post more consistent race pace laps on the SV than I can on my GSXR.

It's a preference I guess.

IMHO, you're on the right track (no pun intended). Unless you just want to buy another track bike, why do it? If you like the SV, and chances are you still haven't reached the track potential of that bike, keep it and don't give it another thought.
