Fender eliminator and the popo?

I have a basic fender eliminator now that goes in the same place as the factory gigantic fender. I was thinking of moving it under the tail by the passenger pegs to clean up the look. Does the popo give you all problems for this? Where do you mount your inspection sticker?

Why give them reason to stop you? That's the way I look at it.
Rig up your inspection tag to hang off a little bracket on your plate or something, cycle gear has inspection tag brackets but they are kinda bulky.

I never had them pull me over just for that. Last time Davey was pulled over I stopped and he told me all of us have illegal plate mounts. I cut the inspection sticker on the stock fender and mount it sideways by drilling holes in it. Kind of hard to explain...

When I was stopped out in Austin county about a year ago the cop actually told me I should mount mine under the tail like my friends because he has seen a lot of people lose their plate that have it under the tail light like mine. I was like WTF!

LOL....I might have to use that one if I am ever yanked over again. That last time when Davey was pulled over and I stopped he asked me what happened to my inspection sticker and I opened my storage space and pulled it out still attached to part of the stock tail....he started laughing and walked off

For the inspection tag I carved up the original plastic license plate bracket that was branded by the Yamaha dealership. I left only enough of the plastic for the inpection tag to hang under and used the bottom license plate holes to mount it from behind. For light I added a single LED centered above the plate.

Yeah this is the one that I have. I am actually going to Tejas Motorsports to buy a new one, they have them in different colors and one of them matches my bike. But then I will have to get a new insp sticker for it, LOL. Kind of hard to move the sticker from the old plate to the new plate.

We have this thread at least 2x a week.

Is it illegal? Possibly. Up to the LEO's discretion whether or not to site for a ticket. You can take it to the judge and roll the dice. The law states the rear of the motorcycle which is ambiguous. I have mine tucked as does SpringR1 but we both got tickets (then dissmissed) by a cop who wanted to hassel us.

As long as you plate isn't farther back than your rear axle, you're good to go. I.E. if it's flush under your tail by your rear shock, you're illegal. As far as the inspection sticker, not so sure, I'd try to have it in the back somewhere visible. Cops are kinda weird down here in my area, I just said screw it and put the stock fender back on.

If I'm not mistaken the plate must be behind the rear axle and properly lit. The inspection"should" be next to the plate but I believe as long as you have it somewhere back there your safe.

all the law says is that the plate must be on the rear of the vehicle and visible at 50ft beind the vehicle it also must be visible at night meaning you have to have a light. there ain't squat about the rear axel or where on the rear of the vehicle. its all up to mr po-po to fukk with ya or not

The inspection sticker just has to be close to the plate. I was going to put mine on the back of the plate. I see lots of crusiers with it on their swingarm so I dont think it has to be clearly visible like the license plate. I would just take the TX code to court if they give me a ticket. How can you get any closer than on the back of the plate..

Plate has to be clearly visible with no angular distortion (not sure if this means 90* or not). Also must have license plate light and there must be a red reflector on the back of your bike. The 1" reflector screws meet the letter of the law.

Here's the applicable Texas Code. Very ambiguous IMO. Another section covers lighting requirements but this is the part that applies to placement.

TRC 502.409.

WRONG, FICTITIOUS, ALTERED, OR OBSCURED LICENSE PLATE.

(a) A person commits an offense if the person attaches to or displays on a motor vehicle a number plate or registration insignia that:

(1) is assigned to a different motor vehicle;

(2) is assigned to the vehicle under any other motor vehicle law other than by the department;

(3) is assigned for a registration period other than the registration period in effect;

(4) is fictitious;

(5) has blurring or reflective matter that significantly impairs the readability of the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered or the letters or numbers of the license plate number at any time ;

(6) has an attached illuminated device or sticker, decal, emblem, or other insignia that is not authorized by law and that interferes with the readability of the letters or numbers of the license plate number or the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered; or

(7) has a coating, covering, protective material, or other apparatus that:

(A) distorts angular visibility or detectability;

(B) alters or obscures one-half or more of the name of the state in which the vehicle is registered; or

(C) alters or obscures the letters or numbers of the license plate number or the color of the plate.

(b) Except as provided by Subsection (f), an offense under Subsection (a) is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $200, unless it is shown at the trial of the offense that the owner knowingly altered or made illegible the letters, numbers, and other identification marks, in which case the offense is a Class B misdemeanor.

[double amendments to the same provision]

(c) *

[as added by Acts 2007, 80th Leg., R.S., HB 1623]

A court may dismiss a charge brought under Subsection (a)(3), (5), (6), or (7) if the defendant:

(1) remedies the defect before the defendant's first court appearance; and

(2) pays an administrative fee not to exceed $10.

(c) *
*[as added by Acts 2007, 80th Leg., R.S., SB 369]

Subsection (a)(7) may not be construed to apply to:

(1) a trailer hitch installed on a vehicle in a normal or customary manner;

(2) a transponder, as defined by Section 228.057, that is attached to a vehicle in the manner required by the issuing authority;

(3) a wheelchair lift or wheelchair carrier that is attached to a vehicle in a normal or customary manner;

(4) a trailer being towed by a vehicle; or

(5) a bicycle rack that is attached to a vehicle in a normal or customary manner.

(d), & (e)*

[*repealed by Acts 1997, 75th Leg.]

(f) An offense under Subsection (a)(4) is a Class B misdemeanor.

* * * * *

TRC 548.255.

ATTACHMENT OR PRODUCTION OF INSPECTION CERTIFICATE.

(a) An inspection certificate shall be attached to or produced for a vehicle in the manner required by department rule.

(b) The department shall:

(1) require that a certificate for a motorcycle be attached to the rear of the motorcycle near the license plate; and

(2) adopt rules with respect to display of an inspection certificate for a moped.
