Well, it was supposed to be out this year but, now it will probably not make it until January of 2007. They are rewriting 70% of the code for the final build and from the testing I have done it was horribly slow. I am sure the performance will get better with the final product but it will still be a big hit on hardware.

Yeah, it will be fun to play with but, I would not commit to it right away on critical things.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of Microsoft. Nothing but Linux here.. well I bought a mac mini a few months ago.. Huge apple fan now too.

From what I've read most of the big things that were originally announced with Vista have been removed. WinFS and umm.. can't think of the other bits.

This MS employee sure does seem bitter about the delays, but I think he got his wish.

Linux has just fallen behind the game. I personally like using computers to perform and record music and well Linux is not there. Which sucks because I would support it otherwise. Although Linux has always been a hackers OS. Same goes with mac. They fell way behind with their hardware and their support policies suck. So, Microtel for me. Vista will be interesting to watch develop. They are ripping alot of stuff out to get it to the market so it will not be such the ground breaker as thought but, it is the way their.

I wouldn't say it has fallen behind. It has always been behind. Being a hackers OS, it has traditionally only supported what was needed, not so much what the masses want. Some companies are trying to change that, but still have a loooong way to go. I wouldn't push Linux on anybody, but I love it. Been a user for 11+ years now. I just like doing some things on the CL, but that's just me.

Redhat, Novell (who bought Suse and Ximian) are doing some good things.

I think OSX is going to hurt them though. It has darn near converted me full time in just a few months. I like the interface, and I still have *nix underneath the hood.

why do you have to have a DVD burner? Can't use Alcohol 120% or something?

Yeah. They are a marketing machine. They won't let little details like the lack of features stop them from making billions!!

Have you tried that little upgrade utility thingy? The one that is supposed to tell you how Vista ready your PC is? I've heard it's very humbling. :confused1

I dunno, I was just reading the commets on the torrent, I guess it's to large for a CD and in a format for a DVD and can't be broken up into multiple disks or something.
