Motocycle title question

So I bought a bike back in Feb and paid cash but never had it registered to me. Still have the the title but it has not been titled over to me.

My question is can I sell it without having it titled in my name? Or must I go and title it, wait for the new title to be mailed to me, and then sell?

Thanks.

well not a good Idea but if you have the signature of the previous owner on the tittle and on the title change form you shoud be able to do it with the least amount of problems

If the title was exchanged with you as the Buyer, you have to pay the taxes prior to selling to the next individual. Or, you can get the "Affidavit of Fact" form and have the previous Seller document that bike was not sold to you, but instead sold to the person you are selling the bike to.

The state is really cracking down on those who do not transfer ownership, promptly.

I've got the same thing going on, I got my 250 as a starter bike and only rode it for like a month before i got my 800 so i never got the title transferred on it, so now im trying to sell it but dont see the point in going through the title transfer thing if im just going to turn around and sell it as soon as I get the clean title anyway..

The only thing I'm worried about it selling it and then the buyer having problems transferring it to their name but it sounds like its not going to be a problem for them.

Why would they have more than 1 title transfer section thing on the back if you're not supposed to do this though?

A motorcycle is a fairly major purchase, the fines a fairly stiff, the hassle is fairly minor...
Why not just take care of it like we are supposed to? It saves so much headache later.

The moral of the story is don't buy or sell without a title, it aint worth the risk or hassle.

Did you ever sign the title? If not, then it's no biggie. Just sell the bike and the new owner can sign it and go title it.

If you signed it, then you have to title it in your name (pay taxes) and then you can transfer title.

Or, you can sell it w/o a title (Bill of Sale only) and the new owner can do a bonded title. Which will cost about $350 + taxes to do.

Be warned that the taxes/penalties for not transferring into your name accrue per month ($30/month I think) after three months. This is based off of the owner signing date. If you buy from someone who shirked the taxes and has a title from the previous owner with a date make sure you low ball enough to cover the penalties for registering into your name. I low balled for my truck, but the $400 in penalties on top of the taxes was still rather unpleasant.

Tell me about it... I paid $209.75 to transfer title yesterday. I bought the bike on the 10th of june... never got around to it till yesterday. Is that a normal price?

B.S.,

You have something like 20 days to transfer title in your name. I just went yesterday & had to pay an extra $50 because of that.
