Can you say low tire pressure?

I can.

Extended high speed running on ANY tire with low pressure will do that.

You said "Banzai", exactly how fast were you going and for how long?

Looks like the tire overheated.

From that wear definatly looking like they werent being used for the ideal conditions?? Alot of straight up and down riding for long period?? I mean it is a DOT race tire, not a highway tire??

Got to be an underlying problem here somewhere. Atleast you got home safe

i checked pressure cold when i left at 31 lbs, and when it was heated it was sitting at 35, that should be more than compfy for these tires to opperate correctly on the street, and on the track i have set at 31 hot in the rear.

yes, it was high speed for a LOOONG time, banging rev in 6th, but still, i have ran NUMEROUS 002/3's among the same conditions with this NEVER happening.

thanks for your professional opinion patrick, you and john are probably the the most up to speed on info with these tires!

carlos said it looks like a defect.

john????

i've always ran my race take offs on the street, and have never had that problem.

i'm guessing low tire pressure also.

john????

You've been lucky then.

When we do top speed runs at Goliad or Bonneville, we run the tires at the MAX pressure of 42 psi. COLD to prevent overheating / coming apart.

Even the Mfrs. recommend max pressures for extended top speed operation.

FWIW, I've seen just about every brand of tire have similar failures when run at high speed for extended times and not at max pressure.
Keep in mind, the highest speed rating on a motorcycle tires is a "W" rating, good for 168 mph, which is probably less than what your CBR will do......
