Unhappy When talent isnít enough...........

Just some photos and a little story I wanted to share.

My buddy AW retired from full time racing at the end of last year after finishing 2nd in the British 600 SuperSport Cup championship.
The retirement was forced on him due to a lack of funds and sponsorship!!
Heís raced 600ís for the last 5 years!

This last weekend, following an earlier shakedown test, he entered the British MRO Powerbike championship. This is a series recognized as the next level behind BSB (BSB being your equivalent AMA) and a step up from clubman racing.
The rules pretty much allow anything and the grid contains numerous ex factory BSB bikes!!

Having bought an 08 Yamaha R1 over the winter which was stripped and prepared for the track, expectations werenít too high. Although fitted with Ohlins rear and 25mm Ohlins fork cartridges, full race Akra and some other bolt on goodies we were up against bikes with Ohlins gas forks, 200BHP+ factory spec engines, 16.5 inch light weight wheels, data acquisition etc etc
AWís R1 motor is stock and until race day AW had never run on slicks!!

AW qualified front row, 4th on DOT Metzeler Racetec tyres,
Convinced to run Dunlop slicks for Sunday and with just morning warm-up to acclimatize, AW took the win in both Powerbike races,

For winning he received the princely sum of:
$80.00 plus a set of tyres per race!!!
and $40.00 for setting the fastest lap!!
(Now you know why my chin hits the floor when yall talk of Tyís winnings)
He was also awarded the Vince Bennett rider of the meeting trophy and a further $400!!!

Sadly heís now back to sitting on the sidelines
No $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ No race

Some photoís from the event I hope youíll enjoy (see below)
1) & 2) leaving darkyís as they exit the hairpin
3) 4) & 5) the leaders powering over the crest at BrandsGP!!

The ď8Ē bike is Crescent Suzuki prepared to a similar spec as the Rizzla/Worx Guintoli BSB Suzuki and the ď47Ē bike is last years Karl Harris factory BSB Yamaha!!

$$$ really has alot more to do with racing.. sadly people don't like to admit it and will continue to ride the " and talent" theory...

Sucks for your buddy... $$$ is what gets you up front not, and talent alone.
