JRP Letter to AMA PRO (June 2k9)

Pre-incident.

http://www.cornerspeedphoto.com/blog...o-ama-pro.html

I met the guy at Laguna in 2005 and was like. Who? Being a big fan of racing (though not of the AMA) I was like, srsrly? You're out here acting like you're a supahstah and I've never even heard of you.

Took about 2 seconds to catch myself and think.. chit.. who am I fooling. I would KILL to be in his position to race in the AMA. Hate the AMA or not, who wouldn't want to be a 'pro' racer.

This was pre reality show too I believe.. and the guy genuinely seemed interested in doing right by the sport.

More power to him for living the dream.

(but ya shoulda slowed a wee bit to let the leaders by)

i thought thats what sponsors were for? Too give you money/equip even if you dont win? 100k seems a bit much for me, but i really have no idea the cost of stuff for them.

Tying in the money NECKCAR makes and pay to Superbike is probably not going to be effective for his analogy though it is reasonably insightful. The simple response to that comparison would be "Well Mr JRP, when Superbike brings in the billions of dollars that NASCAR does, we'll pay those 30th place racers..."

What was it the last time JRP got in to the media for his whining? For the life of me I can't remember what it was, but it was a couple years ago. It didn't do him any good then and actually made him a laughing stock with his "fellow" racers iirc.

Pay to 30th position, seriously? How about the France family get clear the out of AMA and take their rolling starts and Buell love with them?

If the AMA wants to mandate autograph sessions, and otherwise exploit the riders for publicity.........then yes, pay them.

Was that when he and Duhamel had their "disagreement"?

I wonder how much the Isle of Man TT guys should get just for finishing in one piece.

I just watched the highlights and they said Steve Plater won 10,000 pounds for winning the Donlop trophy...that's not even enough to buy a new bike. I would have to assume that the individual races would pay even less on down to nothing based on that. Just not enough dough to go around without insulting the riders by giving them way too little for the places they finish in.
