Thumbs up 8.02.09 RoadSide Aid WorkShop

Enlight of recent accidents on motorcycles and during rides members on our forum have stepped forward to volunteer their experience for the community. In common Forest Gnome/Cali fashion I feel everyone has something to contribute to this community and this is an amazing opportunity.

Volunteers that have come forth include a nurse and another w military background.

The emphasis on this workshop is caring for a member down while professional help comes.

I will be speaking on group riding and ideas that the Forest Gnomes utilize when someone goes down including rights/wrongs of blocking traffic, working w officers and general leadership of the situation based on my experiences(not professional medical practice but accident theory.) Also, I will be speaking on hydration and prevention being the summer months.

Where: Memorial Park(Centralized location for all)
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...image&resnum=1

When: August 2nd, Sunday starting at noon.

What: Alot of fun and knowledageable advice for us all to learn from for the safety of all.

What else: FOOD!!!!!

And Flag Foozball regulated by JustNick!!!!!!

I will be purchasing some hotdogs and hamburgers, buns etc. If you'd like to contribute food, frisbeez's etc, put it next to your name.

What I need:

A cook(unless someone has a generator and a microwave to bring)

A scout for the park to let us know where to meet/go

More volunteers in the medical profession/cpr training/military background to volunteer.

If we get rained out, we can relocate to an icehouse/restraunt somewhere and reschedule for another day.

1. Cali(hotdogs/hamburgers/food but u dont want me to cook!!!!!)

Wish I was going to be in town for this, I'd lend my expert hamburger grilling skillz!

I think this is a great idea for anyone who wants to be gnome - especially those who lead or sweep rides on a regular basis. In my opinion, emphasis should be placed on things NOT to do when a rider is down. I remember during lifeguard and other basic first aid courses, possible neck or spine injuries have to be dealt with extremely cautiously. People are often eager to "help" and want to get a helmet off or want to get people up and moving quickly - that is often the worst thing that can happen. It will be good to go over the dos and particularly the donts of a trauma scene.

Good luck Matt and thanks again for taking the time to arrange a useful and fun event.

I dont take any credit. DMC and others have expressed the interest in providing valuable skills they offer.

We know on the Northside that its important to know every aspect from what happens when someone does go down; how to deal w traffic, the bike, the rider, trailer options, checking out the rider and events following including pictures for insurance etc.

Im just hosting the event. Give all credit to those volunteering their time.

I came to Cali w/ this idea but seeing as im in Beaumont and new to the boards i didnt think there would be as good a turnout as if Cali hosted. So i handed the reins to him to set this up
