i havent, but i have some software developer friends who have.

i would say avoid it if possible, otherwise bargain it to a small time period and also keep a contingency way-out open

I've been working contract for about 1.75 yrs now. I don't have any complaints. Most of the companies say 'Contract to Hire' just so that you'll be interested. There's no guarantee that you'll be hired on full-time though.

He won't 'own' you. You can leave at any time. Don't talk about money until after you interview and you know that the company wants you, then negotiate pay rates.

PM me if need some more info. I might know who the companies are.

Definately. The company pays them and they pay you a lot less. I worked for company that was billing the customer $230/hr.

That's just the way it is.

Go for it then. Get your foot in the door, make them think that they can't live without you, then make them hire you or leave.

Only drawback with contract is that you won't have any benefits.

Here's a good rule of thumb for working contract.

Take your annual pay (or what you want to get paid) and divide it by 1000. This is your hourly billable rate. You should try to get at least 75% of this rate.

Example:
Let's say you think you're worth 75K/year.
That's 75,000 / 1000 = $75 per hr billable rate
75 * 75% = 56.25 per hr

Try to get around 56.25 per hour
