Thinking of Buying a Dirkbite

So now that I have paid off my R6 I have been thinking of getting a dirt bike. However growing up in a city north of Boston MA there isnt many palces to go ride one. I have been on a 85cc pit bike and have ridden my friends KTM around the pits a couple of times other than that I don't have much expierence riding a dirt bike.

So I am looking for some suggestions on size of bikes, places to go ride, things like that. Also I was hoping maybe one day I could tag along if some of you go riding and give it a try before I go and buy something. Any help will be great.

Thanks

get a honda CRF250.. Can't go wrong. It's a great bike and a blast to ride trials or track.

I have a 2006 Kawasaki 200 KDX Dirtbike for sale. It also has a few modification. This is one quick dirt bike. It will keep up with a raptor 660 4 wheeler. Hopefully you are at least 5'8" otherwise you might be to short though. The bike only has 30 hours on it. Was purchased in 07 new for 3500(MSRP 4200) dollars and that before mod. I am willing to let it go for 2500 bucks to anothe MH'er. That is the lowest i will let it go for.

On the real side, how tall are you? Do you want to do MX; ride trails; enduro; have with it or all of it?

It will depend on what you want to do with it, there are several bikes out there that are more trail oriented and other more MX. Danny (DBuck) rides the Sam Houston National Forest quite often, I usually go to Cherokee for trails and Ultimate for MX.
There is a few of us that ride dirty as well.

Well I am about 5'11" so I think I would be looking at a 250, and I guess I would start off slow maybe trails and then go to MX

you can't go wrong with a honda but i wouldn't recommend you gettin anything smaller than a 250F. Especially since you already ride a sportbike, you will be dissapointed after a month or two if you get anything under a 250.

I picked up an 04' yz250f off of another mh member and use it for some mx out at highlands and sometimes over at ultimate. I have a blast on it, and I am by no means a "great" dirtbike rider. But the yz is a blast either way!!

Go cheap, until you learn the in's and out's of the dirt riding. Buy an older 2-stroke, you can find early 2000's for $1500 or less. The 2-strokes have a much less expensive cost to riding ratio than the 4-strokes.

Also consider a crf230f, xr250, or xr400. Easy to use and cheap.

I live out in the SW, so if you are interested, we could meet up in Katy and you can take a ride on the bike. But only if you are really intereested.

This bike does power wheelies in 3 gear.
