I ran into guy about a year at the local shooting range that let me shoot his 45-70 Contender... I shot it standing up and with my right arm locked, man did that thing kick, i was expecting it to kick up but it just came straight back. Needless to say I didnt go for a second shot

The accuracy looks like it sucks, by any chance do you think that the author was flinching when pulling the trigger?

If you want something that will rearrange the bones in your hand I have a nice S&W .357mag that will do it... 340PD with fullhouse .357 rounds... OUCH! I would love to have a .45-70 pistol but it serves no practical purpose for me, but a falling block in .45-70 or .45-110 with a 34" barrel would be nice!

the 45-70 pistol is a useless gun, I mean, it is very accurate if you can hold it. It weighs in at almost 5# and is very accurate if you hold it steady. There are other articles that back the accuracy up even has almost one ton of force so it can toss the 500 grain lead a pretty darn far distance and still maintain accuracy.
The real world, there is little use for this gun unless you are hunting big critter and needed a back up. It was bought just to pull out and say "you think your pistol is big!?"
Its way to heavy and huge to be a concealed carry piece of course, but it is a nice conversatinal piece. and on top of that, its darn fun to shoot, I likes hand cannons and this is the mack daddy of 'em all. talk about pushing the shoulders back when fired with this shot, I hit center mass and the recoil is obviously a crapload as noted by the gun aiming at the sky:icon_bigg
after the trigger is pulled1

Should have had another camera taking a picture of the guy/gal who took that pic when one was touched off. I wonder if a blast/heat wave was felt? How many rounds did you break her in with? (and I thought the 4" barrel S&W500 was a big gun)

That photo was taken by my buddy Doug, he's a 300# ex cop and we shot off 20 rounds or so that day, considering that gun and its recoil, thats a lot
