Advice needed for starter bike

I'm taking the MSF course next week through awesome cycles, and have already started looking through the ads here and on craigslist. I'm fairly tall at 6'3 so I'm looking for opinions on whether or not a Ninja 250 would be the right bike for me. I had some people recommend the Ninja 500 and the SV650, but they are both out of my price range of about $1500-2k. I guess I'll get my chance to try out a 250 at the MSF course, maybe it will fit me. What other bikes should i look at?

the 250s are pretty small bikes, but youll know whether or not youll be comfortable on one when you take the course. you could also look at a katana, gs500, or a ninja 650

I am glad I was talked out of buying one. I was broke and a salesman I knew talked me out of a 250. He said I would hate him later. He was right. I would have had buyers remorse inside of a week.

I found one on Craigslist. This lady just divorced her husband, but she is on vacation in Nigeria.

Might look into a 750 Magna if you're willing to go the cruiser route. Really easy bike to handle, but still has a of a lot more power then that 250 or 500.

A few more bought
A few more sold

if you buy a used 250 you can resell it for what you paid, how do you "go wrong" buying a bike and selling it for what you paid........

we sold ours for $100 lesss then we paid after 1.5yrs and 4-5000mi

500 is also not a bad beginner bike
650 are better then 600's but worse then 250/500's

My SV was only $2300. You can find a bigger bike in your price range- just keep looking and don't take the first thing you find.

But, like some of the others said, buy a 250 (USED), then sell it when you're ready to move on. The most important thing you'll learn is throttle control.

Buy whatever you are comfortable riding knowing you can control it in a sticky situation.

I learned on to ride on my dad's HD cruisers when I was a teenager, so I 250 sportbike felt weak to me. So I started off with a weaker 600. But I had riding experience.
