I understand and even applaud choice.

Maybe I am asking the question wrong.

What is the purpose if any other then they are just odd looking and feeling?

I run 12" apes, love em, no fatigue, better riding position IMO, went back to stock bars, hated them. of course I'm not on a metric either.

I rode a springer with 16" apes on it last week and it was the most uncomfprtable thing I have ever ridden. It has a turning radius like the Queen Mary and is horrible in the wind. I'll stick to sport bikes, nakeds and "regular" cruisers any day!
