7.11.09 Forest Gnome Newb Ride

^^^That about sums up it, along w all this VVVVV

#1... Dedicated, marked leaders and sweepers that will not leave anyone behind.

What: Controlled, Road-King Ruled Forest Ride w the protection of the Forest Gnomes at sane speeds for the opportunity to improve your own skills.

When: July 11th, PP69(shell station at the NE corner of 242/i45.

Mandatory Meeting at 9am

KSU at 930am promptly

Where: Sideroads up to Richards for the group to recollect, then on to Anderson w lunch at Yankees in Carlos after the famed 3090.

Gear Req'd: Helmet, Jacket, gloves; highly recommend ankle-cover shoes or riding boots, knee protection and back support.

PreReq's: Tires, brakes and reg/insp/signalling devices in good working order.

The Forest Gnomes are hosting another newb ride to Carlos. What does this mean? About 200 miles of twisty roads, the opportunity for you to improve your understanding of riding and your bike.

This is not a training program, just a well organized opportunity to get out and have a controlled ride w people that know these roads well, use full hand signals and dont ride over the group they are leading on these roads, in hopes to prevent accidents and run offs.

Recommendations:

1) If you have not ridden these roads before, nor with our FG group PM myself or another FG. Please be honest and let us know your experience so we can gauge before hand not mid-ride placement. This will happen regardless; we chose the roads we have so we can watch the first 20 some miles and see how people ride together etc.

2) Get a good night sleep the night before

3) Arrive promptly. There is a McD's on scene if you're concerned about being too early.

4) Hydraute yourself from the beginning. Once you become dehydrated you put yourself and others at risk. It takes longer to come back then to replenish.

5) Do not hold back questions or concerns; we believe in a safe riding experience and no questions are ignorant. After the mandatory riders meeting we have a very short informational talk about riding these roads and general cornering/spacing etc for newer riders to the Northside.

6) Be prepared to have a good time; I understand some frustrations to those who would rather ride faster and also appreciate the FG's for calming down to the levels of the ride as it progresses.

From Yankees groups can leave at their own pace.

I will lead back the remainders or people that would like to go back on a controlled ride. Highway 6 and i45 are our final destinations.

(disregard the 'bonnet stop for pix.')

I'm a bachelor for the next few weeks! So I'm going on this!

Put me in the uber noob category: inexperienced - leave space behind me and don't freak out if I don't keep up.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if I could get my Low Rider ready for the 11th. Carb and tank are off. Possible Harley Takeover.

Could be. I need a new back tire, repack bearings, and all fluids changed.
