Hoping for a quick recovery for both of you and hope to see you both back on the road sooner rather than later!

Saw the rain up ahead. It looked knarly, so we stopped under an over pass to cover up and put on rain gear. It started pouring while we were gearing up. Ken pulled out first, but had NOT secured the rain cover around his tail bag very well, the wind got under it and lifted it off. He caught it and we stopped again to secure it. He said he was worried about my cover, not his and I should take the lead.

We sat and watched about 15 cars pass and had a good 1/2 mile opening with NO traffic. (which is why I didn't get run over later) With my chin over my left shoulder, I pulled out behind a brown SUV. I was doing about 25mph when I saw (In RAPID SUCCESSION) the brake lights of 5 or 6 vehicles domino and the SUV fish tailing around. Rather than grab my brake and slide up his tail pipe I looked left again, saw nothing and swerved. On the fresh rain highway, my rear tire did not hold. I lay down on my left hip and began to slide, with my bike, between the two rows of vehicles.

The bike kept going - a LONG TIME - with me following. I could hear the FrogTogs tearing and feel my left cheek warming up and the thought occured to be that I needed to get off my left side. I forced a roll to my left shoulder which somehow flipped me face front onto my stomach and elbows SUPERMANing down the middle of the left lane. I knew in the flip my foot had not followed my knee... :-( I stopped, looked over my left shoulder into the bumper of a light gold 4 door car. The drivers all around had stopped on both shoulders. In limped to my bike, but knew I could not lift him alone.

At this time a woman in flip flops ran up and said "I ride! I was in the chase car today, let me help you get this!" We lifted OSO off his side and she jumped on and rolled him to the shoulder. I carried her flip flops.

This is where I turned around to find G-Man. To this point, I had NO IDEA what was happening behind me. Rain and all, people had their windows down and were asking if I was okay. I could see the FZ6 standing on the shoulder (I could'nt tell it was backwards) I gave Ken the "WOO HOO" and said I was okay and the bike looked cosmetic and it was all good... He said "Mine isn't"

WTF?!?!?!?

Ken was 2 seconds behind on my right, he saw me swerve, and headed for the shoulder, a car in the left lane tried to beat him there and forced him down. The cager had been in the left lane where I was sliding and didn't want to run me over, so swerved to miss me. I am unsure whether or not they saw Ken at all... :-( He, however saw them and again, the rain soaked road did not allow for safe swerving even at 25mph. His bike went down and began to spin on it's frame slider. He landed on his right hip and began to roll and crab slide towards a black car in the middle of the highway trying to get around traffic - his fear was that he would hit the car - head first and be crushed. His bike decided to wrap itself - rear tire first - around a pole.

I have photos of before and after, however, they can wait. I'm tired. I'm sore. I'm thankful.

I'll have a new thread in about 10 minutes for the help we actually need...

Love you guys!

Yes we have ridden in the rain before. We just were in the wrong circumstances at the wrong time. The only reason I can think that people started hitting their brakes is because i think they saw a cop on the other side of the highway. I say that because the cop was right there almost right after we went down. He had to have been close.

The rain was just clearing off when we went down. It was only a quick shower, not a torrential downpour or anything like that.

Thanks. Okay / Sorta works for me!!!

I'm really not into what COULD I have done diffrently. I did the right thing in the wrong road conditions. I am glad I chose to slide the bike (roll bars/frame sliders FTW) as bikes can be repaired and replaced. Had I grabbed the brake I would have hit the SUV I was merging into moving traffic - and I'm sure I would have worse injuries.
