What reason would the car driver have to even think that a biker was gonna be there?

that's my thought. Its definitely not a US video, I'm figuring lane splitting is legal there like much of Europe.

The dangers of lane splitting IMO. Even more dangers on a 2-lane split road. They landed in the opposite lane. Luckily they weren't run over.

I think it's legal to ride between the lanes in England... like in California. But I'm not sure for 100%

... one should never expect a driver to pay more attention to whats behind them and the person behind them is paying to the traffic ahead of them.

perhaps with hindsight I should not have posted this here!!
to appreciate the moronic actions of the cager you have to have some appreciation of UK driving law!
As some of you have eluded to, the laws in the UK are quite different, we are permitted to filter (splitting as you call it) and in fact it is encouraged on motorcycles, the rule of thumb being 'progress not digress' as it's put.

What the biker is doing is perfectly normal and something all of us that ride reguarly do around stationary or slow moving traffic.

You will also note that at the beginning when the biker releases the brake, his brake light goes out but his tail light stays on indicating that he is riding with his headlights on, something encouraged in Europe on motorcycles to help other road users "see you coming". Uk bikes from 06 (i think it was) on are fitted with lights that are permanently on!!!!

His only fault was to stray onto the centreline which is frowned upon!

The cager on the other hand is breaking the law,
you DO NOT U-turn.

The highway code which is part of the driving licence test also clearly states that the required procedure for any manouvere is,
observation, indicate, observation, manouvere.

The cager is totally to blame.

you guys weren't to know, my bad
