breaking on curves

ok...I have never been to the track...and the type of bike im on right now is not necessarily a bike i would turn too much...but...my question is

When in a curve and lets say you were red lining before you got into the curve...do ya break...and if you do ...do you use both ? ...do you up shift...slow down...

how do you shift when you are red lining by using the clutch or by just hitting the shifter...

might be ameature questions...but something i wonder lol

Front break. Pretty deep almost untill apex. It is called trailbreaking, and something that should be practiced and refined on a track.

The sequence I use at the track is pretty consistent and reflective of Keith Code's information. It goes like this...

1. Adjust body position
2. Identify your braking reference point
2. Brake with the front brake while looking through the turn, if possible, clear past the turn exit
3. Turn in
4. Smoothly get back on the gas being easy with the first 25% of the throttle position and then increasingly faster.

Joe mentioned trail braking which is simply staying on the brake past the turn in point. Ty Howard and Larry Meyers both teach trail braking in their respective schools and I suspect at upwards of half the guys in the advanced session trail brake. However, it's not necessary nor even encouraged at level one.

Our 14s have a intresting center of gravity............ youre about my size and on the same bike *even color* With me i have to almost hang off the entire side of this big bike to get it to lean the way I want it to. You really kinda have to muscle these big bikes............

The big bikes CAN handle pretty well, but at 100+ pounds heavier then the the liter bikes you do have to use a little more muscle to make them turn. Cali is one of the few on the board that I've seen that can really handle a busa in the twisties........be it on the street or at the track.
