Can some of our more writer-saavy motorcyclists get some thoughts together for a letter to the editor? We can show this guy that what he wrote offends someone, that he is not completely correct...ya know?
Anybody?

I just happened to read this article also listed on the site...
This is definitely a radically conservative newspaper.

Quote:
Marriage Amendment more than moral issue
Dear Editor:

State Constitutional Amendment Proposition 2 — The Marriage Amendment — which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman-is more than a moral issue and if it should be defeated at the polls the cost of benefits to same- married couples will be enormous.

* A constitutional amendment is necessary because mere “statutes” are being struck down in many other states. In fact, there are currently more than 60 lawsuits across the country seeking to overturn state marriage laws;

* A constitutional amendment is needed because it takes the marriage issue out of the courts;

* Cost of benefits for same- married couples: Major federal health and welfare programs - food stamps, welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, pension benefits, sick leave, bereavement leave for deceased partners, health care insurance cost for treatment of HIV/Aids, and every benefit now applicable to heterosexual married couples only would apply to same- couples, including the adoption of children;

Social Security retirement and disability benefits: Upon the death of a Social Security beneficiary, then a spouse, divorced spouse, widow or widower has a right to payments based on the marriage rather than on his/her own earnings;

Veteran disability benefits are increased if the veteran has dependents and same- spouses are entitled to government medical care;

Same- married couples would be entitled to file Joint Income Tax returns.

Vote “Yes” on Proposition 2. Early voting begins Oct. 24. Vote early!

Argh this makes me so mad.
Did she seriously point out HIV/AIDS treatment specifically in reference to Homosexuals?
Not to mention--the fact that she is completely wrong thinking that anything allowing same- marriages would then make all benefits for hetero couples null and void and only apply to homosexuals...she does not know what she's talking about.

Anyways...[/Political Science SoapBox]
Sorry for the Thread-Jack.
