new to dirt....school me

I want to start riding dirt to get back in shape. Where are tracks I can ride at within 20 min of La Porte. Someone said Rio Bravo. I know of Highlands but anywhere else? Do I need to buy pants and a chest protector or can I just throw some jeans on with boots & a helmet and get after it? Where can I get some cheap gear?

Where are some trail riding spots?

I want to spend around 1500 on a bike. Whats a good deal?

help a brotha out......

For Highlands I know that you can throw some jeans on with some boots/helment and get out there. I would wear some goggles and gloves to at a minimum. Here is a helment and some goggles in the for sale section

I've got some higher end mx gear I might be interested in selling, or if you have any street gear, I might be interested in a trade.

I've got a Bell Moto 8 size Med.
Gaerne SG10 Carbons size 9 (I think..i'll check for sure tomorrow), but they run a size down from normal shoes, i'm pretty sure, because I wear a 10 in most shoes.
I've also got a set of Answer Alpha Air gear, I can't remember the size for sure, but I'll check tomorrow. The pants are either 34/36 and the jersey is either med/lrg.
I also have a 661 chest protector that's barely used..and a fox under jersey protector.

I've got goggles, gloves, and other stuff as well. Just PM if you're interested in anything..

Best bang for your buck to ride trails would be the Sam Houston National Forest. $8 for bike decals, and $25 for membership pass... but good for 1 year.
