Stupid pull over!!

So this morning riding to Richmond Suzuki to get a new tire. My rear went flat. So just filled it up and made it over there all safe and sound. But with one hold up. In Sugar Land, I got me a Harley Cop who pulls me over. Not speeding. Not changing lanes without signal. But instead (I do understand this part) no light above my plate. Gotcha. Second reason Im pulled over.........after market signal lights. Not DOT approved. There are like any kind of the ones they sell at cycle gear. He Says I cant have them and need to change them out immediately. No ticket or anything, but just didn't get that whole deal about the light signals. Anyone ever have this problem?

odd part is....I bought the bike from a cop. He is the one who put the plate on with no light, and those turn signals. I haven't changed a thing.

If it was light outside you do not need a light for the plate..and the lights do not have to be dot approved heck you aret even required to have lights on it....

I would of told him to screw off....

O.K., here's the drill;
It has to have a license plate light, if it doesn't is an equipment violation if the officer chooses to enforce it. As far as turnsinals goes, IF it has turnsignals , they have to work AND they have to meet D.O.T. approval. Once again it's an equipment violation.

Do a lot of bikes, including mine, not strictly adhere to this law? You betcha. Can an officer, if he wants to, write you an enforceable ticket? Yep.

He may have been pulling you over because the bike may have matched the description of a stolen bike.
He might have known the officer who sold you the bike and wasn't aware it was sold, or maybe he just wanted to hassle you.
Either way you did good biting your tongue; yes sir and no sir him, and ride away without any drama. Some battles aren't worth the time

Yeah unfortunately so.

Jake,
Right now I've got an SV1000S and a naked Bandit 1200. Both are pretty far from stock.
I sold my CBR1000RR last year and probably won't be buying another s/s bike in the near future.

True story

Got pulled over by a Metro cop doing 77 on 45 south, when he came up to me I gave him my DL and insurance and asked him "why did you pull me over when there was traffic passing me at 80+?" he said" well i was kinda hoping you would run, most of you speed addicts do" to which I said " well I guess we're both SOL cause I was hoping you would be a hot female cop" he looked at me like I had just slapped him and went back to his car. When he came back he said "sorry to disappoint you" and handed me a warning. Just goes to show that not all cops are . (......but most are) :icon_bigg
