I took my MSF @ Awesome Cycles and it was just that, fckn awesome. They are good peeps, and you will have a blast, regardless of ability. I would take MSF to learn where you stand, and then buy a bike, but that's my opinion. You can't go wrong w Awesome Cycles!

Welcome!

Awesome Cycles gets my vote as well. Great teachers and a very positive learning environment.

You will get to try a couple different styles of bike at the class and get a taste for what suits you.

Agreed, take the MSF and find a bike after that. Typical starter recommendations will include Ninja 250, GS500f. I went with an SV650 but made sure to take it easy for the first few months. I'm sure you'll get plenty of good advice and if you search around you're bound to find a lot of discussion on this toppic since everyone goes through the same thing.

What part of town are you in?

I live in North Houston, in Greenspoint. I had gone to see a Ninja 250 two days ago and got my first riding lesson from the guy who owned the bike. I went around in a circle at a Walgreen's and even though it was just a circle it felt like the . Thanks for the feedback on Awesome Cycles, I'm gonna go register now.

Isn't that the point to some extent -- to learn on a 250?

On the contrary, some say 250 is a good starter bike: buy for cheap, ride the out of it, and then sell it. Whatever your option, imo, buy used. If I had known better, I would have done things differently. However, you will soon learn your preferences, and that's when you fork out for a ss. Take out of it what you will.

Edit: Again, MSF will help you know your options.
