Dude sorry about your friends. Sounds like the second guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Still, no gear = no bueno.

at least they live to tell and hopefully someone will learn when they see all the scars. Sucks that they learn it the hard way.

Well, happens to people and no one really deserves to be really hurt like that. I feel horrible for both, especially the one with the broken leg and pelvis. He would have the breaks gear or no gear. Hope he learns, though, from thsi and wears gear if he decides to ride again cause that rash all over the bosy is no joke. Luckily his head didt hit anything too hard.

Ok, I have a couple of friends that had some pretty bad crashes on Saturday, in different cities aggravated by some stupidity.

Number 1 was on his Kawashitty and went over tracks on an uphill while revving it and when the front came down it went tank slapper and right into a curb. No gear, wearing tshirt, flip flops and shorts. Skin on knees gone to the bone, rash from his face to his hip, broken wrist, skin grafts and all kinds of . Got out of the hospital yesterday after one surgery. I would always get on him for not wearing gear and he would kinda give me this "just cause you always tell me, now I will for sure not wear gear cause I am smart and know how to ride" attitude. Way to go, dude.

Number 2. In San Antonio. He left a friend's hotel, too a right hander and got side swiped, from what I hear. No details yet. 2 surgeries so far to repair a broken leg in 5 places, broken hip, rash, bruised spine, rashed from head to toe. Skin grafts are next. No gear, as well. He doesnt like how uncomfortable it is and who needs it anyway, he has never had a prob. Lucky for him, when he went flying, he hit whatever he hit with he lower part of his body 1st so no serious had trauma. He would have landed head first, he would have lost his head, literally.

I know gear would not have prevented every injury, but would have prevented a lot of them. Now instead of broken bones, they both have to deal with the added pan of severe road rash to the equivalent of 3rd degree burns on large portions of their bodies. I cannot imagine healing after any broken bones I have had with the added discomfort of having to grow a lot of skin back.
That sucks for your friends. Like you said, gear will not always protect anything, but I have slid across pavement at 50 mph down the loop in Dallas and walked away without a scratch. I believe in gear 100%.

Glad they both are okay, hope if they decide to ride again, they will be in full gear.
Gear saves some lives , but for sure it saves a lot of pain.
