I don't remember having to pay last year to park... but that was a long time ago. I'm going to go as long as nothing creeps up on me before then.

I never paid to park. Some people did. I didn't you can always find a free parking spot for a bike. They do charge $10 to cruise down the Strand gauntlet.

The strand poser parade is the best part of the rally.....

Or at least the most entertaining.....the trolly tracks add that little extra excitement....LOL

There's a bunch of us doing the ridesmart track day event at MSR-Houston (in Angleton) on that Saturday (11/1). I'll check out the "breastivities" Friday night, then driving to Angleton early Saturday AM, then returning to the island Saturday evening & coming back on Sunday. Hopefully our house on the west end will have power by then.

Alirght! I was worried about it not going to happen this year. I made it a point to be at the ROT rally in Austin and this was the icing on the cake! hopefully all the new parts i ordered will get in on time and be on my bike by then. Who all wants to do a ride down there together??

I do remember having to pay fro the strand last year but that was about it. Im sure though that there are several "monitered" parking lots that will "watch" the bike in it for a small fee.

it's a good idea and bad at the same time. the damage is very extensive down there, i was there for the first three days after the hurricane and it's really screwed up! i think having the rally will just hinder the restoration project but the mayor down there has been doing dumb from the beginning so i don't know what shes thinking anymore.

Yep. It's still a mess down there. They have a whole lot of cleaning up to do...even for a biker rally!

+1 Having more people down there is only going to slow the restoration process. As contractors and residents will probably be using the hotels in the area for temporary housing. As well as having a bunch of traffic in an area with debris and a bunch of shops and food joints that will probably be closed Hopefully they figure it out before it is to late.

How hard was The Strand hit? Some parts of Galveston faired pretty well, especially as you got closer to the Seawall. My Uncle's house is right on Broadway, 1 block from the entrance to Stewart Beach, and his house was fine. I went there with my Uncle as soon as they let Residents back in. The lower residential parts of Galveston took alot of water damage from the surge, but with the Strand having most of it's building elevated above the street level, it may have faired pretty well.
