Nope... you are never allowed to run it. It's in the FAQ on the txdps website.
You are supposed to find an alternate route.
No mention of if you are in a left turn lane and the fact it's illegal to go straight or right from a left lane.

I wonder who is held responsible for non-compliance with this:

Quote:
Sec. 544.0075. CERTAIN TRAFFIC-ACTUATED ELECTRIC TRAFFIC-CONTROL SIGNALS. (a) This section applies only to a traffic-actuated electric traffic-control signal that consists of a traffic-control signal for which the intervals vary according to the demands of vehicular traffic as registered by a detector and that is installed and operating at an intersection.
(b) In addition to any other type of vehicle the presence of which the detector for the traffic-actuated electric traffic-control signal may register, the detector for a traffic-actuated electric traffic-control device to which this section applies must be capable of registering the presence of a motorcycle.

Added by Acts 2007, 80th Leg., R.S., Ch. 219, Sec. 1, eff. September 1, 2007.

I was rolling the bike all around the sensors for 5min before I turned the camera on. Should have made a right turn, and turned around. Next time.

Works every time: The sensor is just coil of wire in bedded in the concrete that detects metal when a car drives over the rectangle.

All you have to do when you come up to the light is put you wheels on either side of the rectangle, (long part) triggering the sensor.

If you stop in the center it likely won't work, as demonstrated in the video.

249 and Zion Road in Tomball 'HAD' a trip sensor, but I think they changed it over to a timed light? by now--Sometimes it got so bad that the cops would have to go out so the School Bus's could get through---or maybe it was timed at the time? Either way--I always avoid the light and try and make the turn either before or after.

Actually, it's an offense to "Cut Parking Lot to Avoid Traffic Control Device." Seriously.

That said, it's generally accepted that if your motorcycle doesn't trip the light through one cycle of the light, it's a no-choice matter to proceed, only when safe to do so, of course. The majority of cops and courts are aware of this issue. It harkens back to the law quoted by Pinball. If the traffic control device isn't properly registering the presence of a motorcycle, then the traffic control device is defective. In the event of a defective traffic control device, you're supposed to stop, then proceed only when safe.

There was an article in a magazine recently, I forget which one, that covered this. Kickstand down can trigger the sensor, there's also a rare earth magnet that triggers the light. The magnet can be at the lowest part of your bike, or embedded in your boot.

Some other states have a law allowing a bike to go after two complete cycles but not Texas.

In my opinion if the light does not change for a bike it has malfunctioned and should be treated as such. I once had a police officer stuck behind be yell out of his window to run the light so all the other traffic behind us could move up to the sensor.

Yes, I know that's an offense. But I'd prefer that over running a light. Besides, "I was gonna get gas... then changed my mind"

Also, good point on the 2nd part. I wasn't aware of the info in Pinball's post.

Texas law allows you to jerk yer 9 and fire warning shots over the top of on-coming traffic to inform them of your intentions. Traffic will usually stop and let you pass. Loudly yelling "Yippie Kai Yai Yeah!" after proceeding is the "all clear" indication for regular traffic flow to resume.
If a police vehicle is in the vicinity it's suggested to fire the typical, rapid three round burst over the squad car which informs the officer that this sensor is malfunctioning. They have been trained in how to respond to your signal. It's then his obligation to file reports about the incident and possibly call other officers to help investigate the malfunction.

I know Texas and Georgia state laws differ, but in GA if a traffic light doesn't recognize that you're there, you treat the light as a 4 way stop. Basically it means cautiously run it.

It seems the law was changed in 2009 to make it illegal to run a malfunctioning red light.

Some notice would've been nice as I had specifically researched the law back in 2007 and came up with a different answer.

^ that being said, the law states you cant run a red light but (i think) there is a law stating that malfunctioning red lights can be treated as stop signs (may be just two conflicting pieces of legislature though)

I stop ON the line, and sometimes bump the starter too.

There were a few lights in Dallas that I ALWAYS had to bump the starter or it wouldn't "see" me on the KTM.
