Touring with the bike. Night at hotels..

When you are touring with the bike, do you feel OK leaving your bike in the parking lot at night?

I am having to go to Austin and San Antonio here soon for work making TONS of stops and was thinking about taking the bike. But I am paranoid about leaving it out at night...

LOL should i insist on a first floor room and bring the bike inside?

Lots of folks park their bikes in their room. I wouldn't leave my bike unattended

call your ins. provider and upgrade your coverage so in the event of theft or total loss you get a check for the amount shown on your bill of sale instead of cash value. That's what I did and since I don't have much in aftermarket parts, I wouldn't be mad at all if mine was stolen.

or push it in the room

Getting stolen isn't that big of an issue. My ins would cover it and I would get a new ride. BUT it would cost more and be a pita to get back home....

That is my issue. It would screw the budget.

We will see. I also have a new Orleans trip next month....

If it's a "nicer" hotel that has security. Ask to speak to the security officer that evening, ask him (or her)
where the safest place to park it is and slip them a $20 (or more) and ask that they keep a eye on it for you.
They are usually aren't paid well and that extra cash will get their attention.

Or, just bring it into your room....

I flirt with the girl at the counter and then park the bike in the driveway right in front of the doors... and have full coverage.

I just ask for a handicap-accessible room. They have more open floor space, ramp access, and wider doors. And I stay at motels where each room has the front door that opens to the parking lot.

Full coverage
disc lock with audible alarm
kryptonite lock with cable
park inside the room

I've left mine outside more than once with a chain around a post and a 45ACP close at hand... but I usually choose the nice hotels in the small towns on back roads, and stay away from the downtown areas.
