dude i am all for it.

as for stopping people from running into each other, maybe you can limit how many people are stunting at once. i.e. people get time slots. newbies can only be on their own, or they can have one other person with them who is teaching them.

people can sign up as a group to all be together in the same time slot, but all people in that slot have to consent to sharing the space/time.

i dunno what a good amount of time would be. maybe 5, ot thirty minutes.

anyways, i think the idea is exactly what the community needs. if you really wanna see it through dont give up .

wouldnt work. thats like having a public court in houston, and telling Yoa Ming he can only play for "X" minutes, ofcourse he is going to go to his private courts, just like the local "Good" or "Pro" stunters are going to stick to their privates spots. if they make a big sign that has a chain of command on it and let the pros IE Joe, Eric, Mike, Me, Matt L. run that , then it would be a more welcoming thought. but then they'd wanna throw liability on the "Commander on Duty" when someone wrecked.

But if we had someone that knew what was going on that could run the show when they are there, if the newbs or just guys that aren't as good, could listen and learn, they'd benefit greatly and everything would be safe.

Every time I think of Greg's 50 School, I see Greg standing in front of 5 or 6 noobs who are wearing orange safety vests and riding rent-a-phiftys with "Student Stunter" plastered on them. He could develop a written test to go along with the class. Sample questions:

#1 B.C. is a critical stunting skill. It refers to

A: Brand of aspirin (B.C. Powder)
B: Before Christ
C: Brake Control
D: Birth Control

#2 Cool people write 50 the following way

A: phiddy
B: fifty
C: phifty
D: all the above

True/False

______You should only begin stunting if you have a handbrake.

______It is best to learn in 2nd or 3rd gear. First gear is for girls.

______Your phifty can't cause that much pain since it's close to the ground.

Props to Mekrew who has the most patience on the planet when it comes to teaching folks how to stunt.

Look into existing facs like MSRH who invite folks out to stunt at trackdays already. I bet for peanuts you could use the East lot and just have sections for wheelies, stoppies, circle wheelies, whatever. Just one at a time in a set path and you'd avoid 99% of the common accidents. After the last session of trackday you could have a stunt session for open track high speed wheelies. Just have to pay the ambulance.

I don't get it...what about my idea, other than what went on at the MH BBQ, makes that a stunt show?

Bunch of noobs in a parking lot?

Update:

I spoke with Mike Luinstra from Outerlimitiz Freestyle today, and seems like he's thought this through alot. Don't think it would be fesable (sp) to have one within the Beltway loop cause he said last time he checked just 2-4 acres of property was going for 12 million plus.....

But it seems he's done his homework and I want to discuss this further in-depth with him to see where a suitable place would be to try and start one...

But it does and can sound like a possibility given the right finances, ins. , stuff of that nature......

You have about 1 thing working for you and a ton of things working against you for any kind of public use facility in Houston.

The one thing you do have working for you is that Texas passed a hazardous activity law a few years ago that protects the state, etc. from being sued by some participating in a hazardous activity. IE, skateboarding, rollerblading, etc...

This is why a few public skate parks have popped up in Houston but, to really see how great this law is you would have to look at Austin or Dallas where huge developments have occurred. Houston does have one of the largest public skate parks being built as we speak but the process was like pulling teeth to get it underway.

Everything else in Houston is against you. Getting land would have to go through the parks department and getting additional permits to build is a hassle.

Now if you could find a spot and find out who owned it and what not you may be able to petition for the area to be whatever you want it to be but, the way things are at the moment it would be difficult without some big names and dollars.

The only reason the skate park finally happened is because a huge private donation was made by a family.

and this is his PRIVATE lot on his land. ofcourse i know a couple guys that are welcomed there including me, but its a bit of a drive
