motorcycle accident

My wife got a call tonight from a friend asking if I still had my helmet. I told her it probably would not fit her friend but she was welcome to it. She then gets another call about an hour later and her friend has had an accident and is in the ER.
She bought a bike today (from what I am told she bought a cbr 929) and a friend was showing her how to take off. She dumped the clutch and then just as we have seen 1000 times on video, freaked out and could not stop. Slammed into the back of a van. Broken wrist, cut up face, her pelvis is messed up. No gear at all.

Wear your gear folks and get proper instruction.

She has medical bills to pay, doubt that bike is too useful to her now. I thought his timing was appropriate...early bird gets the worm!

Saw the van she hit this morning. Her head took out the back window. Ford Winstar 1 - Chicks Face - 0

I asked her if she was going to sell the bike (it actually faired pretty well). She says no, she is going to ride it. I think it was the pain meds talking. She is one of those " I can do anything" type of person.

I broke my femur in july 05, fire hydrant-1, stupid idiot-0. Was riding again in Febuary. Don't sell (unless its for a smaller cc bike), it was a good learning exp unfortunately. Hope she heals up quick.

Makes sense, because the SECOND time she rides she will know better and will never make that mistake again.
I would make sure the forks on that bike are in good working order, it takes a lot of pressure (i.e. speed) to shatter a car window from the outside with a soft, round object like a human head.

depending on how up her pelvis is she may never be able to ride again. When I broke mine it was over a year before i could even get my leg over my bike. if its broke and they have to internally fixate it she is going to be up for quite some time.

She can certainly crash

If I were teaching someone how to ride a bike I wouldn't even let them start it. I would push them first and let them get a feel for the brakes.

i never understood why people's first instinct the first time on a bike is to twist the throttle all the way. first time i rode i was scared to death of that thing.

sorry about your friend. hope she's learned her lesson and if she rides again takes it a lot easier.
