Bike with no title

Hello,

I have found a bike that I would like to buy. The only problem is that the person does not have the title. How would you buy a bike with if the person does not have the title? I guess the better questions are would you buy it? And how would I get it in my name?

TIA,
Keith

it depends on what happened to the title. you can possibly get a bonded title if the bike is not stolen

just save yourself the hassle and find one with a title. search MH for "no title" and read 100 threads about people who never get their titles.

Its illegal in Texas to sell a vehicle without a title on hand.

For a good reason.

unless A lien holder (credit union, bank, etc.) has the title. If that's the case, show up to the bank, pay the guy what he's asking, he'll pay off the lien and then he'll assign the title to you....if a lien holder is not the reason he doesn't have the title....I would pass.

It can be. You give some guy $4k for a bike. Call the bank to get the title, and they want $4k to remove the lein. You're f'ed.

Right, except the title is not held at the actual bank and you can't just walk up to the teller and get it.

Really? we bought a v-max several months ago.that came from out of state. not been on the road for like 10 years. no title just bill of sale.
went to tax office she made up a paper after looking up nada of vehicle. called around to a couple insurance companies found one that gave security bonds (sp) $200, called my insurance with vin and applied at courthouse. got a new title in the mail a month or so later. no probems
a little bit of a hassle and a couple more bucks but not that big of a deal
