I hear everyone talk about calorie intake intake intake. I see most folks metabolism that has slowed down over the years can't get away with eating as much as they used to. Psychologically, it's quite challenging if you've been accustomed to scarfing down food over the years.

I hear tips such as drinking water before a meal to keep from eating as much. Or folks that say stop and do something else while your eating. What are some tips that you guys suggest to help reduce your calorie intake while easting, aside from carefully scrutinizing the constituents/ingredients of the food itself to lower your intake?

Eat slower, sometimes it takes some people longer for their brain to signal that they are full. This is called SEROTONIN. Eat more salads and try to stay away from processed foods. It's all about discipline really. Eat To Live, DON'T, Live To Eat. I personally NEVER eat after 7:30.

I found when I hit 33 that the easiest change to make first was what I was eating. Not exactly rocket science; I cut out soft-drinks, anything from a vending machine, fast food, and no fried meals.
Then I forced myself to not snack in between meals. A cup of chopped ice from the freezer would satisfy those cravings to chew. Which is what it mostly is, not because you're actually hungry.

When you go to a restuarant, cut all the orders in half. Ask for a to go box right when you order. If you're still hungry when you get home, eat the other half. Odds are.........you won't be.

If you make the change to "clean eating" and actually eat the proper amount of calories that your body needs abour 6 times a day then protion control can become eaiser. Eating 1700 calories a day has me tired of chewing! I get to eat sooooo much that my body knows that it going to get food in 2 hours so I dont have to eat that much in one sitting.

Chic Fil A isn't actually that bad because they use peanut oil and if you order their grilled chicken sandwiches it is pretty healthy for you.

water is a big thing...you can actually loose weight by drinking more water, because your body will not retain as much which in turn will result in dropping water weight

when i was dieting, i used to just much on a little fruit and drink water when i got hungry during the day instead of going and getting a bag or 2 of chips or hitting up mcdonalds for the tempting double cheese burger

also do not eat late at night, and if your going to eat a high calorie meal eat it in the morning because you will have all day to burn it off

i lost 165 lbs just by eliminating fast food, soda, fried foods, junk foods like ice cream etc etc and eating late at night tag teamed with running every day

My Mom does this alot. Also, To help make sure you won't eat the other half, call someone and tell them you have some food for them, you'll have to give it to them.

All great advice from thin people (except SWAT). :-/

I, too, am not a thin eater. I eat until I'm going to explode, then later I eat that much again. I always was able to control my weight for the most part, but after my pregnancies I still weighed well over 160 lbs (only 5' tall). It was VERY hard to not eat so much and lose weight.

There is NO secret to eat less. There is no step that can control your hunger or craving. What it boils down to is that you would rather be thin than eat THAT (whatever that may be).

I know it's not pretty, but it is the truth. If you stopped and actually counted the calories you consume in a day you would probably cry.

The best thing that ever happened to me was for my wife to go on a diet. Since she's on a diet, she's not asking me to take her out to eat nor is she cooking for me anymore. I have resorted back to my old ways of eating. Anytime I'm hungry, I eat. I should say I snack, for I eat to make the hunger go away. I do not watch what I eat, for I still eat all the unhealthy stuff. But since the wife started her diet earlier this year I have dropped 25 pounds.

If I want a cookie or two, I get up and get myself a cookie or two. If I want more, then I have to get my lazy ass up to get more. Whereas if you take the whole damn bag with you to the couch, you're going to eat more.

When it comes to fast food, such as burgers, I order the small ones. I'm always full afterwards. If I order a big burger, it doesn't go to waste, I would eat it all and instead of just being full, I would be stuffed (and packing on pounds).

To sum it up, eat when you get hungry, eat small portions. Once done, wait 15 minutes. If you're still hungry, eat again. As Po po stated, odds are you won't be hungry.
