need a bike

well im looking for a bike, some thing fun and maybe my wife ride on. im taking my classes this weekend. im kinda looking at the ninja 250 but i dont want to out grow it too fast. I like it cuz is cheap and good started but i want to take little road trips too. im 6 foot and only like 130lb so im lite. i sat on it it felt good but do yall thing theres some other bike for me to try? any info will help me out:eekspin:

Be honest with yourself regarding what type of riding you want to get into, including your wife.

If your not sure I would suggest taking a good look at some sport tours like the Suzuki Bandit.
For crusier I would look at the Yamaha V Star 1100.

Use those two as a base to gauge other bikes by.

Used is a good way to go on the first bike.

road trips are possible on sport bikes but alot more comfy on cruisers and you may want a little more power if your doing road trips...

thank you for all your help im going to look this week end cuz i just passed msf classes today. im kinda want to get new cuz had to many bad times with used boats and cars.

Remember your first will not be your last bike.

More over, it will get dropped. This is why we recommend a lighter bike that allows more margin for error when your learning to ride. Something w a snappy throttle etc will be havok in a corner if you second guess anything.

Remember gear, gear, gear.... Spend the money up front for good gear vs regretting it later. Gear is optional safety insurance for the crash, not for the ride; that's why we recommend it and all wear it.

There are several knowledgeable places to go to get the real low down on fitting properly etc. Some moto stores only sell the goods and aren't experienced to fit you to a helmet and the proper gear will protect. Loose gear or gear restrictive and too tight will hinder your experience and safety.


There are several threads in the 'general discussion' topic if you search "beginner bike" where many pages have been devoted to others asking about starter bikes.

GL, ride safe. If you are patient, I'd recommend going to a large meet and greet so you have the opportunity to see, possibly sit on several different bikes and get good opinions by owners, not salesmen, about the bikes. But remember owners can be one sided too.
