You don't generally take "racing classes" but you can go to trackdays and trackschools. Trackdays are an open style where you just practice lines, control and general bike discipline. YOu can also take trackschools where you learn more advanced corner, braking and passing techniques...
...but to learn to race, you need to learn "racecraft" which is honed over years of experience.
Tracks "near" Houston...
MSR Houston in Angleton
Texas World SPeedway in College Station
MSR Cresson in Granbury

Ya I wasn't sure if I needed to get anything done before I tried to hit up a track day. I use to do corner working in NM so I kinda saw whats the flow of things. I may ride over to that MSR houston tomorrow to just check it out.
It would be good to hit up a track school before you went on your own to a track day right?

They are generally one in the same... I may not have explained it properly. But you take trackschools as part of trackdays. Some places just have open trackdays.
YOu have A,B and C groups with Lonestar (whom I highly recommend www.lstd.com). In group C, the beginner group, you have the option of taking a trackschool to help noobs familiarize themself with the whole trackscene. You get one on one training, a good core skills lesson and lots of tracktime. But it's as a fairly basic level.
Then you have places like CSS (california Superbike School) Where everyone who attends the trackdays is part of the school. Everyone there gets one on one training on the track and in the school. It's generally targeted at advanced riders.
I highly recommend the LSTD trackday and the school for all noobs...
Oh, and don't think that you'll be "on your own" at the track... there are ALWAYS people there willing to help out. They let me jump into C group on ocassion to ride with some noobs. Henry (FZ1moto) takes lots of footage of noobs and then allows them to watch the footage as a learning aid.

Trackdays are generally around $150-$175 and yes, you need a full leathers... you also need to prep your bike for the track.
Go to www.lstd.com and read the requirements...

Welcome to Houston Brotha!!
I reccommend going by Motorcycles Unlimited - 281-444-0545, and talking to Patrick, he post here as well. He can provide you with anything you need from leathers to setting up the bike. He's also a cool cat to know with a wealth of knowledge on racing/riding.
See ya at the track!
