ScooterTrash

so, since I am changing turbo brands and size, I have to basically start at square one again and redo the manifold and create a new flange.
This is a sneak peak at the manifold ready for wrap and a mock up of the new turbo and carb

got some more time Late Sunday and got the exhaust manifold flange almost done, still needs cleaning on the outside but fits perfectly and is almost ready for the next step, the blend from 2 - 2.5 . be done with the complete exhaust if I can get 2 more hours on it. The flange is made from 3/8" steel plate

post a pic of where you are going to put that plate.
surely, The flange I made gets bolted to this
http://www.hi-upload.com/uploaded1/MVC-761S.JPG

This is the exhaust outlet of the turbo, The red is the dope I used to pattern my gasket and ultimate flange size etc etc. The recessed area in the flange I made allows room for the integrated waste gate door to open and the trough I cut leads the blow off into the main stream of the turbine exhaust. On drag applications and bikes where the rider is feet back, there are two pipes, one big, one small and they are usually slash cut shorties (busa style). On the street bike like mine, I want to retain the forward controls, so I will have the one 3" pipe exiting in the rear wheel area, well behind my feet, even when at a light and feet down. The flange will be mated to a 2.25" - 2.5" bell, this will allow just enough room for allen head bolts and then having the 2.5" DP is a bonus easily gained with this, kinda like the veritable cake and eat it too.:hello:
I should have the exhaust done by late tonight and you will see the flange in place.

Awesome! I'm starting to understand what you are talking about. I bought a car with a turbo in back in December so i've been learning a little about what is goin on in there.

Turbos are fun. Do you have a gauge to monitor the boost?

yes I do have a boost / vacuum guage and I also have a wideband to monitor the air fuel ratio.
I will have this running at 8# for the premium fuel we have. Can make more power if I wanna up the boost and drop in some race fuel.

Greenway Smokey
02-02-2006, 04:34 PM
I bet you can boost higher on the 93 octane we have here.

I don't know if there is a difference between cars and bikes but i know guys boosting to 20# on 93 octane.

ScooterTrash
02-02-2006, 05:30 PM
nope, not safe. as you will see soon enough, 8# is a monster, no need for more really.

just finished the down pipe, lemme shoot a digi, post it up in a sec.

nope, didnt before, I'm kinda excited, I'm getting close. I also finished the intake that connects the carb to the turbo and I made it with a 45 so it follows the tank angle and also doesn't interfere with the leg. Now, I'm in the tear down phase, cleaning and final deburring if needed and re-assemble for good and get ready for the fire up hopefully Saturday or so.

no losing, I'm guessing the V-twin torque will rule up to about 100-120, then its all you.

When was the last time to rode it?
1.5 - 2 months, havent had a lot of time to finish it lately. I ran the piss out of the garrett turbo kit, then tore it down for inspection and found slight shaft play, thats why I tore it down again and started at square one with a different brand turbo. A major set back and bummer indeed having to do it all over again, but the new kit is going to be awesome, more oooomph when rolled on no doubt. I am way excited, hoping tp crank it up today, been working on it all morning doing the last minute small things that usually eat ya up with time to complete. :icon_smil

I just changed jobs, so I won't traveling no mas and will actually have a whole machine shop and crew at my disposal:icon_bigg
I would love to build you a kit, that bike would be the epitomy of nastiness:headbang:
I will start doing some research and see what compression ratio we are working with and see what I can find that will produce good safe power. I'll get ahold of the guy I deal with in Miss. and see what he thinks. He also has vortech superchargers there:eek3: , but I would rather do the intercooled blow through terbow route with yours.

Nice Work.
thank you

here it is after todays work on it. everythign is bolted in place ready to run now, no more mock -up since all fab work has been completed. The very last thing to make was the wings that hold the charge pipe securely into the rubber gasket in the "Y" pipe between the cylinders and the carb and choke bracket assembly. All completed today, The only thing left is the oil lines to the turbo, which I worked on for about 3 hours today and still didnt get it done. I will finish those in the morning and connect the vacuum line from the snail to the wastegate and install the wideband sensor and I'll change the oil in the bike before I start it. I might go ahead and finish the exhaust pipe and weld it to the down pipe before I start it, because I'll wanna ride it as soon as I hear it running.

I'm riding that bitch!!! and man o man this turbo moooooooooooooooooves the air, way more than the garrett. On the garrett GT15 turbo, I was able to use stock carb set up as in jets and metering rod. On the new setup, I had to rich it up from a 180 main to a 200 and then I also had to put in the high perf N-65 needle and shimmed it with a small o ring (:keke:), on the bottom end I went from a 42 low to a 48:eek3:

This bike hauls bawls period. I took it for a little test and tune ride a few minutes ago and it flies without even getting on it. My bike = permanent shit eating grin:icon_bigg :hello:
I am off to the store to buy more pipe and finish up the exhaust, I wanna go for a longer ridehttp://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/images/smilies/tour.gifhttp://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/images/smilies/Smiley-Cycle-Flag1.gif
