View Full Version : Loop 610 Minibiking #1: TCJester
I'm gonna post pics of various spots Kris and I have found to "urban minibike" mostly inside loop 610. This is a cool 40 acre spot near 610 and TCJester. We made trails out here 2 years ago, but Ike closed most of it down. We're gonna go out over the next few months and get our 2 mile "racing loop" cleared out and ready for summer after work riding. Any one who wants to help, come on out. We cleared about 1/4 mile in 30 minutes with 2 machetes, so clearing out the whole loop is like a 4 hour project for 6-8 guys.
This is a perfect spot for dirt tire XR50's (street tires will work on 50% of the terrain as it's hard packed), pit bikes, ttr 125's, XR100's, 150's.... Lots of elevation changes, banked turns, small hill climbs, off camber, ruts, roots, chutes.. It will put your mini and your skills to the test. No one to complain as it has no neighbors, it's "over the tracks" from any other buildings. And you can run the bayou for miles in each direction and goof around on the banked sides (ever dragged knee in a straight line?).

Ramp down from close by parking lot (convenience store, they let us park all day if we buy stuff there)

Just 500 yards down the bayou:

To this terrain, which is very much like the nationally recognized Ho Chi Mihn mtn bike trials in Memorial Park

we used to ride minis back there 6 yrs ago... and mountain bikes long before that. we'd go in directly across from the big TC Jester public pool. at one time my buddy built a big double that jumped over a 10 ft. deep pit.

Peter?
Why waste soo much time and money looking for mini tracks when you can just pay $350 and have membership to a proper track like Katy?
I mean I understand cheap thrills and all, but there crashes end up similarly - with cheap frills...
Cool video though ;)

have you ever been out to the golf course? I dont think its about wasting time or trying to be cheap but more about finding new and fun places that everyone can ride. You will get a bigger turn out every weekend at the golf course, the 610TC trails or one of the mx tracks than at the katy track cause not everyone will pay the $350 to ride out there. Its more fun to ride with a group all day than to ride by yourself.

You guys just be careful out there...
I'm happy for you guys finding spots and getting cheap thrills but it could be dangerous when you go down..
I'll stick to the $350/year membership for a proper paved track like...

Dude, have'nt you banged your self up pretty good racing the minis?
Everytime I see you, your either rashed up or recovering from a broken something. Motorcycles are dangerous anywhere, just depends on how you ride.

Yep.
That's why I'd purpose to keep it to the track where IF you do crash, slide, wreck, wipe out you'll slide a little, but end up in the grass or track knowing your not going to run into a tree, bush full of thorn, other obstacles etc etc.
but like you said - the sport of 2 wheels IS dangerous, so i guess it does NOT really matter...
Anyways you guys be safe out there, I see you guys on the track turf side :)
Katy is a great fun place. But it's in Katy. And it's for race bikes, and has just a handful of turns, and you have to share with karters, and it's for street tires, and it has no jumps. Kinda like comparing the National Forest to MSRH.
This place is 10 minutes from the Galleria. After work (downtown, galleria, i-10...) during the summer, you can head over and get in a couple hours before the sun goes down and still make it home to a little later dinner.
Basically the train tracks on the south side block you with a 30 foot wall of gravel from any people. So there are no cops, no people, no noise issues. And you can take the bayou in and out from a smalkl strip mall and go in and out unnoticed, except maybe by joggers running the TC trails.
I"m gonna go again on Monday. I'll send out a slew of PM's when I figure out exactly when. All that's needed to clear great trails is imagination and a sharp Machete, $12 at home depot. I have two.
