and must say that I wasn't all that impressed..but let me explain..

I was really excited to take this class since before I had the bike because I had heard such positive things about it. However, this class seemed to be more geared towards people who have never been on any kind of a bike with a motor. I suppose if you did not know many or any of the fundamentals of riding a bike then this class would be very beneficial.

Perhaps part of this blame could go onto the instructor. It was his first class that he had ever taught on his own, so I tried not to criticize too hard. But throughout the whole class and range excersizes he was chain smoking like a freight train, which if smoking is your choice then cool, don't do it while you're giving me instructions in a class I paid good money for. Not only that but he was dropping F bombs pretty regularly or just throwing out other 4 letter gems. I'm no saint but I wouldn't cuss in front of a class of people, but maybe that's just me.

Anywho just thought I would throw my experience out there as well. :happy3:

*edit- and to make it all worse it was a b-e-a-utiful weekend to ride and I was stuck in a parking lot on a battle scarred 250 that wasn't allowed to go over ~15 mph or 2nd gear lol

No one is perfect, however, that is inexcusable. PLEASE report him or her to the Motorcyle Safety Unit so that it can be cleaned up otherwise it's just going to continue.

On a more serious note- if you weren't happy with the course after a couple of hours, you should have complained then and not stayed the entire two/three days- IMO

Sorry you were disappointed. I thouroughly enjoyed my class and my instructors and I'm planning on taking another class soon!

Uhhh, well the first 4 hours is all class time (Friday) were we watched "instruction aids" or some other word for videos lol. Then Saturday, and Sunday were range/class days. So by the time all of this began to surface it was Saturday on the range, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten my money back then. Either way I had this scheduled since early December and had to schedule the days off from work and I sure as hell wasn't just going to leave without my damn certificate! I just had to grin and bear it.. Also it's offered just a few times down here and even if I waited for the next one I would get the same guy that would have 1 class under his belt! I was going to take the advanced course but I sure as hell won't take it here if anything now that I'm legal I'll take a roadtrip up to Houston and take it with one of the reputable people off of the board.

Thanks for the tip on where to take it, appreciate it! :notworthy:

I'm also really really wanting to do a track day so I suppose I'll go browse that section of the forum some more

Was it the guy with the bandana and drives a harley? I took it with him and it was a miserable time due to his rudeness.

Naw no Harley. But like I said this was the guys first class, and this wasn't in Houston, so I doubt you guys even saw him doing stuff even when he was just a range aid.

+1 on the noob school feel

Watch some new riders, though, and see where they have the most difficulty. They are so overwhelmed in turns and low speed maneuvers that they can barely keep the bike up. Most of us (myself especially) don't have the discipline to work on these basic and critical skills so they're second nature and we can keep our mind on traffic. If it weren't for MSF I'm guessing it would have taken me years to get to where I was after the weekend.

I hope you come to appreciate at least this aspect of it over time, it's more valuable than I thought at first.

As a smoker, I just wish I'd signed up for your class, mine didn't have enough breaks!

Not alot of smoke breaks, he was blazin it up while we were riding it around or he had the lit cig hanging out of his mouth during range instructions! Like I've said smoke all you want, just keep it the F#@$ out of my face. :-/
