Neutral to 1st

My bike jumps forward a little when shifting from N to 1st. Not enough where I need to hold the brake, but it still jumps a little. Is this a sign of the clutch going out?

Don't think so. You talking about the lound clunk it does? If so, mine does the same. I think it's common.

It does clunk but it also jumps forward a little. 1st bike so I don't know any better.

Mine jumps a lil too, but not every time. My 1st bike too. I'm sure others with more experience can chime in.

im pretty sure my bike and my first bike did that a little too. i wouldnt worry too much, however, since this is your first bike you should be getting it checked out anyways. there are good lists out there of things to look at, but in my opinion its better to have a pro check it out.

i would suggest go to patrick at motorcycles unlimited, ive heard nothing but good things about them, and when i just went there for the first time earlier this week, they did a real good job fixing me up. i was real happy with their work and prices. staff was friendly and helpful, plus patrick game me some good advice about the bike.

not going to mention any names, but i have heard some seriously bad horrer stories about other places.

i think MU does an oil change and 21? point inspection special for like $40. i would highly suggest it for a new bike/new rider. i just went there, and found out i had a nail in each of my tires. i could have found them if i had just looked, but ive been too busy. plus there was some other things they found that could use attention that i would have no way of knowing.

its up north off 1960 but its worth the drive. go check em out.

I am no expert, but i would say that your clutch is slipping. My bike does not lurch forward when i put it in gear, and this is not normal IMO. Can you adjust the clutch at all with the cable adjustments at the clutch lever? Either way, i would have it looked at by a qualified mechanic, and i would also suggest Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited. My experience with him has been more than expected.

Check the clutch adjustment but my bike doesnt do that either but mine is a 05 with 7000hard miles.

You may just need to adjust the freeplay. Bring it by and I'll do it for free. It only takes a minute and I'll show you how to do it yourself for the next time.

Ridden my bike since it had 4 miles on it and I feel a bump pretty much every time I shift into first.

I bet if I sat in neutral with the clutch pulled for about 30 seconds before I shifted into first it wouldn't happen.

Since I posted this, I screwed the adjuster all the way in then adjusted it at the clutch cover [terminology???]. It's better now - shifts smoother than before. I'll still take it to Patrick to check out. Thx yall.
