Yo man, we need to hit the pads man. I just got back from Austin helping my boy prepare for his fight this Friday (28th) and dammit...I'M OUT OF SHAPE- 6 FK'ING ROUNDS AND I WAS ON QUEER STREET :angry7::banghead:. We gotta do something...I've been running hills and doing other conditioning (bleachers, 100 yrds gassers, etc) up at Rice but as you well know, fight conditioning is like night and day to regular cardio conditioning. When we hitting the pads? Need to schedule a hockey night too...just let me know when will be good...:thumb:

hey dude, where you been hiding? I thought you didn't love us no more. well, not me, but those guys >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
we are sparring on weekends at 24hr on 529 and 6. I worked with our new guy james last week. and you're right dude, conditioning ain't shit in comparison. it burns my ass that I don't get done in time every day like I used to. I hate this feeling of carrying 7-8 extra pounds, and I lost 15 since I saw you last. I gotta get back down to 154. we can always hit it there on weekends, but I'm still looking for somewhere during the week. damn our last place for closing, there was a lot of opportunity there! let's keep looking, and when you're ready on weekends let's do it.
and if you see mckee, give him a brazillian noogie for me. gracie style.

Man, I'M THERE when you work on the weekends. Just give me a call when yall are heading to the gym (still have my number right?). I lost weight...FCUKING PISSED...I weigh about 180 now and am sitting at about 7% bf. My conditioning is teh ballz though. Went 6 rounds and by the 5th I was on queer street- worst f'king feeling in the world. I was fighting purely from heart the last round, had nothing left in the tank.

oh yeah, I was gonna get us all hockey tix and get keith in on this for this weekend, but I had to have some more pre-cancer shit lasered off my head yesterday. I'm still dizzy (quiet mckee) from it, and I look like I was hit in the face with a paddle for an hour. I should be back to normal next week. but I can train this weekend, since I'm just gonna get pounded or pound someone else anyway.

Good chit...just hit me when yall are heading toward the gym. N we don't need to spar but my ass needs to go 10 rounds on the target mitts at 100% with a 30 second burnout and repeat until I throw up. I am sickened by the thought of gassing out- that shyt burns me up. oh no, don't get mad dude. we all get fatigued, and forget our muay thai instructions from time to time. just ask brett junior about closing after throwing a straight right and eating a superman punch from my muay thai stance. guess he forgot I could do that. when I get fatigued, I fall right back to thai style, and it gets sloppy sometimes. we'll get you lined out in short order. starting with everyone's favorite weighted stance drill!

Todd Moore (http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Todd-Moore-14918)is now coaching the standup classes and is a real nice/knowledgable guy in all facets of the game. Nah, he is a grappler, we used to go at it all the time (Jayson Rogers). You know him?

LMAO...that'll work. I need to hit the mitts baad. I'm sloppy with my body positioning after a few rounds I've found (i.e. not rotating hips through punches, not lifting heel on uppercuts, etc). Time away from the gym is beginning to hurt my game...

Hahaha, I know Jayhson! Man, he's an awesome guy. I trained with him a LOT when I first started and he's one of the reasons I learned so fast. I haven't been able to train with him much in the past year b/c he stopped coming to the night classes. He trains during the day and now is the head instructor at Travis' new school, up off 2920 near Kuykendahl. I wish it wasn't so far from me b/c I love training and just BS'ing with Jayhson. He's one great dude.
As far as rolling, I'm usually there Mon-Thurs, 7pm and don't get home until almost 9:30. It's pretty much work, train, sleep during the week. I usually have too much else going on on the weekend to train much (have to give my wife her time).
I've been training hard. There's a big NAGA tournament up in Dallas next weekend that we're going to. I'm training tomorrow morning and on Friday with a few guys since Travis is nice enough to let us use the place when he's not there. I'll likely rest Sat and Sun and then get a few more days of good work in next week before the tournament.
I was originally planning on getting down to 170 like I did for the last NAGA tournament but I was miserable last time. I don't like to "cut" since I don't have sauna access, so I start eating less a few weeks out. Man, I was a grouch, etc. I decided to just stick at 180 this time, especially since Thanksgiving is this week. It sucks though... I'm more on par with the 170 guys as far as upper-body strength goes. I have to fight the strength of the 180 guys as much as their technique. Ah well... that's what I have to do when I don't have time to lift weights anymore.

Yeah it sucks to have to stay up in weight because I can guarantee you a great majority of those guys are cutting. I hear you on the training thing, I'm really considering just coming out of pocket somewhere because I can't stand not training.
When see or hear from Jayson, tell him "Scrappy Doo" or "Juice's n Berries" said hey...as far as advancing your game, yeah he's is the reason I was competitive with purples while I was still a white. He get his black yet? I figured he'd be atleast a legitimate brown by now- he was a purple when I first started but I am of the understanding Travis makes you start over when you start up at his school.
I'll PM you my number just in case you need an extra body on open mat days leading up to and proceeding NAGA.

He was a 3 or 4-stripe purple when I started too. He got his Brown a while back and is now a 3-stripe brown. He'll have his black in a matter of time.
As far as rank... We've had people come from other schools and join our school and I've never seen Travis make them start over. Now of course, for example, if someone comes in with a no-stripe blue and he doesn't think they're at a blue-belt level yet, he'll leave them there until they deserve their first stripe. I've NEVER heard of him having someone remove their blue and put a white back on though. He's not that kind of person at all. He's very respectful to all the other schools out there.

Ahh I gotcha. Well I'm gonna check yall out and I already have a reference for ya. My lawyer was looking for a good bjj school and Tooke and BAM were the first two I thought of. As much as I love Elite and the guys there (that's where I started so I will always have love for um), I think they've gotten too big for my liking and could not go back under those conditions.

I have always felt that training with a new school meant going back to ground zero. one thing I learned from my origional instructor was "if you wear your rank when you walk in, they will judge you by it. and probably harshly. instead wear your white, and impress them quietly. they will alter your belt as they see fit." he was right. I changed to Geiss's group after recieving my first dan, and wore my white. a samurai has no use for pride. they noticed that I was much better than the students I worked with, but HIS stubborness kept him from accepting that I was not just a product of his amazing teaching, and he refused to let me work with the better students. I stayed queit, and only told them "I have practiced before". since most aikido schools have only whites' and blacks, there is no level distinction, only that from novice to basic black. I got tired of working with the same students for so long, without being allowed to work at a faster place so I went back to AOH. as far as muay thai and jj, I always worked with sifu mike and gang, and didn't roll with other schools much.

It can be seen both ways. If I ever have to change schools, I will just talk to the instructor at the new school before participating and let them know where I came from, my experience, etc. If someone just goes to a BJJ school as a purple belt (for example) and wears a white belt and doesn't let anyone know, that can be seen as very disrespectful and also as sandbagging. I mean, what if you decide to compete under the new school? Are you going to compete as a white or a purple?
With BJJ, it isn't usually an issue. Like I said, if you're not 'worthy' of your belt color to your new instructor, they will A) ask you to change (rare from what I've seen) or B) leave you at the belt level you're at until you not only reach that level in their opinion, but then surpass it and become worthy of the next level.

I can't imagine how it could be disrepectfull. an instructor belts you, not an organization. if you work well with regular lower belts, you will be seen as proficient. under normal education, a carefull instructor should see that your techniques are clean, and ask to promote you. if I was accused of sandbagging, that's like telling me I should be more boastfull to those around me , and not allow the instructors to evaluate me properly and carefully. of course, I come from very old school instructors. very traditional, unlike most modern mma schools who do not teach theory or liken certain techniques to their origin. they are fight schools, not martial art schools. we have lost the "art" and that bothers me. but that's the way much of this is heading I'm afraid.

Yeah this is how I see it. I don't really care what rank your belt shows. It's all relative anyway. I've rolled with purples (when I was a white belt) and smoked um while I've rolled with blues that have given me trouble. Belt doesn't mean spit to me- it's just a general indicator of where someone may be. Mat time is where it counts in grapplin so I pay less attn to teh belt than I ever have now that I am a more mature jiu jitsu player. These days I tend to go nogi anyway so it really doesn't matter then lol. I'd definitely always suggest rolling with a gi though because it is good for establishing good technique.

I totally agree, and my bjj was more jj, as in more japanese oriented. one mans' sandbagging could easily be referred to as another mans' patience!
I got $20 that says the left side of seans' head is sore after working mitts with me!
but he's pretty fast, I may only get a few in. I usually get to hit brett junior 3 times before he remembers, and starts ducking! hahhahahahhaha a few weeks ago some fat yoga lady was putting out mats while we were working mitts and she said something to us, and he stops and looks over at her right when I was giving him a left to the head! I knew as I was slapping at his head "oh, this fool isn't even paying attention, this is gonna hurt" and tried to slow it down but he took it square on the ear! mitt-KO! well, not really, but it rung his bell and I had to laugh at him. he looked at me to say "why" and I told him "what the fVck are you looking at in a fight"? fVck that fat bitch!
