Motard Tires

I am having a problem finding either the size or tire for a KLX-140. It is not the "L" model. I have a 17" front and a 14" rear. I was trying to find out what others have done instead of charging off into the unknow.
Looks like one of the sites has some goodies for the "L" model but can't seem to find anything on the regular KLX 140.
Point me in the right direction.

BUT, might i suggest you run 12" wheels on that bike? it's easier to get tires and tons of people run 12's on the larger cc bikes like this.

I'd suggest running a 17" x 3.5" rear. Lace it up to your stock hub. That way you can run 125GP slicks. Soft front & rear will last you forever on the cart tracks.

17's should fit, but it will be tight. Find how many spokes your wheels have, and then look up either Excel or Sun rims. Like John said, 2.5 or 2.75 front, and 3.5 rear rim widths. You will need to get a spoke kit for the rear, but the stock front spokes will work.

if you chose to run 12's you can use the stock hubs or just buy a pair of wheels set up already. sun and excel both sell custom made wheels (spoke count) i did that for my kx 100 project. it's simple really, just how much are you looking to spend? i guess buying one rear wheel assy would be cheaper than buying 2 for the front and rear. it's your decision tho. we're here to help with what ever you decide. if you want to lace up some stuff just let me know and i'll be glad to lend a hand. i've done a few sets now, nothing to it really.

It being a KLX140 I think the 17" will fit, and if it will, that would be the best option. Call Patrick and he can get that rear wheel squared away for you. (281) 444-0545. I've got the rubber in stock.

CLETUS I have two mini endurance teams I run in the CMRA mini endurance's. I have a KLX 140 L decked out.

You posted that you DO NOT have the L Model. Heres the catch. The standard model KLX (the one you have) has the shorter swingarm. Therefore you will NOT be able to mount 17" wheels to the model you have. If you had the "L" model you could.
So 12 inch wheels are the only way for you to go due to clearance. Yes you could use your stock hubs. I did. But you will need to have the correct spoke kits for the 12 inch wheels.
There are a couple of goodies you do have on your KLX. Most all of the parts come from the KX 85.
All brake components front and rear are off the KX 85. ( discs and calipers ). The master cly. up front is off of the KLR 650. The steering stem housing and bearing will except the full adjustable KX 85 front suspension.
But the standard front stock steering stem on the KX 85 is a bit too short for the standard KLX. The KX 125 stem fit real nice.

If you had the KLX L model a KX 85 front suspension bolts right up. Stem and all.

FYI.....your bike has the older KDX front suspension on it but is shorter for the smaller standard KLX. It is NOT fully adjustable but could be worked on.
For some help in this department visit with Greg Workman @ JM Racing "Spring, TX. He has done all of my suspension even the WR 450F Motard and has been spot on. Besides he is also a CMRA member and races himself.

As posted here before Cam Moorehead does a great job as does Michell Abrams at A & A Racing Services. They did my KX 85, KLX 140 and the TTR 90 which has 12's on it. Great work.
Please do heed a warning here. Beware of East Coast Wheels. Bad experience and know of many others who have had the same.

Still scuffing them in so I couldn't get too low. It is hooking well about half way down, responds quick to steering input. I don't know if that is the bar or the tires, but it's nimble.

I'll bet Wes had fun spooning those on. The stock rims are quite narrow and including the tubes. What size of tires did you end up putting on those rims?

The tires are awesome! Neighbors are complaining from a few Bonzi runs I have made through the neighborhood. I have been moving pretty good on it. I think I will definately be joining Katy next year.
Wes said he can help me with a jet kit, gearing, and exhaust. I think I will take him up on once x-mas is paid for.
