Hi everyone.

Potential new rider here.

Been seriously thinking about starting to ride over the past few months. I've ridden dirt bikes before, never been on a street bike. I've glanced over a few articles here on the forum and am pretty convinced that getting a bigger bike to start off with will be a bad decision. I just can't really decide which style of bike I'd like to get. Either a sport bike or a cruiser. I'm 6'1", around 250 or so. Do you all think that a 250 bike would be too small for me? If so, what other bikes 500 & under should I take a look at? Thanks for the info.

Once again, Hello all. Hopefully I'll get a bike soon and look forward to seeing you all on the road.

hello http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_39.gif What kind of riding would you like to learn? Cruisers are nice for doing just that....cruising. A 250 or 500 would be good to learn on for more spirited rides in the future. But what ever you get just remember to stay within your limits. Good luck with the purchase of the bike and be safe.

I'd say get a ninja 250, learn on it for like 4months , sell it (you can actually resell it for really close of what you paid for it) and then buy something, like an Sv650, bigger bike but still user friendly, unlike the high strung race replicas, even if it's a 600 supersport. Then, you can get something big, cause your skills will be so much more developed.

And welcome to your new addiction.

With your size if you wanted to eventually get into the sport bike seen then i would start out on the 500 used but not like old old something like a 2000 up so it would be dependable and all that. Then you ride it for around 5000 miles or so and sell it and make your own desitions from there.. In the crusier department i have no clue just buy it used maybe something like a shado 600 or something..... O yea take msf

Anyways welcome im the guy that cant spell for shit so please dont flame on my spelling.....Hope to see you on the steets....

Wife would rather me get a cruiser, but I'm pretty sure that my heart will be in a sports bike. Going to head up to Highlands Kawasaki and check out their Ninja 250R's sometime later this week. See how if feels on my big frame. A friend of mine who used to ride said that a 250 would be way to small for a guy my size, but I've heard on here and from a few other people that I'd do just fine, just wouldn't be able to go very fast. That's fine by me, I'm not getting a bike for the adrenaline rush, I'm getting one for a few different reasons. Not to just 'go fast'....I've got a Mustang to 'go fast' in.
Hopefully Highlands will have a 250 as well as a 500 on the floor so I can see how both will feel. I'll keep ya'll updated.

Thanks for the welcomes as well as the advice.

And yes, I will attend a MSC before I begin to ride it on the street. And my wife wouldn't allow me out of the house w/o any gear on. :laughing6
