Bad idea or not? Just bought a bike and probably won't have time to get some street rubber on it in time.

Err Bad Idea...
Infact - I'd contact an official on the TMGPs.8k board before hand to make sure if they'll even let you do that.
If you don't have time to get that taken care of the before the Denton race (11th & 12th) - then just post up on the TMGPs.8k board or over here, someone will lend you a bike.
I'd committ to lending you a bike, but since it's Denton we probably won't be there early enough to make the race school.
You were looking to make Denton right? Or are you talking about Katy?

Katy.
On a side note, I went against your suggestion to get an XR/CRF 100. To justify purchase of the bike (when I am supposed to be building a house), wife agreed to let me buy now if the kiddo could ride it too, so I opted for a KLX as she has Zero experience on 2 wheels. Probably going to upgrade once she learns to ride or gives up.

If its Katy - I can be there early enough to have a ride for your rider's school. Just remind me a week before the event.
To buy a house is like getting married - certain sacrifices have to be made, I sold my street bike, my race bike, 2 of my supermotos, my trailer, all that to get into a house. :hs:
So if you had to go from a CRF/XR to a KLX, to get a house. Consider yourself lucky.
Oh and the KLX 110 can always be competitive given the right mods and rider skill. Starting out they'll all be the same for you.
PM one of the "Que Paso Racing" boys on the board, they have a DRZ110 and can better help you with what mods need to be done in order to get the KLX 110 going.
