ok we have a thread on oil, so what about the filter? What you like the best and how much do you pay for it?

i just buy whatever they tell me to buy lol..... I will go out in the garage later or tomorrow and take a look.....

What im curious about is does everybody change the filter when they do a oil change I know on my truck I don’t sometimes but I don’t know if I should do that on the bike or not….

I only buy oem honda oil filters. I don't know if they are better or worse than any others that's just what I buy. I always change the filter when I change the oil.

High Flo & K&N, is pretty much what we use at the shop.
On some bikes like the BMWs, Roadstars, some Hondas the stock filter works best.

I think to really know what filter is best, you would have to: buy several different types, run them each for the same time and same dirtyness, then destruct to see which does the best job....a tough and long process.

http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterStudy.html shows some filters opened up and evaluated.

However, they give a "grade" for the filter media, and size of it...which appers to be strictly subjective to the evaluators opinions. I think a better test would be to have a batch of "dirty" oil, and run a predetermined amount of dirty oil though each type of filter media, then measure how much of the pollutants it filtered out. The specific area of media exposed (pleats x depth x height) would only affect throughput of the unit....not neccessarily how well it filters.

good info here as well. http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Filters.html

on some Kawi's the OEM filter has a high pressure relief valve
especially on the ZX-12r, if you don't go oem and it's cold you can blow seals in the motor from too much oil pressure

FRAM filters are horrible...cut one open, its made out of cardboard on the inside...OEM is the correct choice.
