We've seen an increase in the amount of "excessive celebration" penalties as of late and I'm wondering how others feel about it. I personally think it's incredibly stupid and hurts the game. What are your thoughts?

T.O. draws our first overly-sensitive celebration penalty

Terrell Owens scored on a deep ball in what's looking like a fun and competitive Browns/Cowboys game. Owens was fairly open and the touchdown looked easy ... but then he made the ensuing kickoff more difficult for his special teams unit.

After scoring, Owens walked back towards the goal line, shaking and loosening his legs. He got down on a knee, lifted up into a sprinter's stance, pretended to burst out of the gates, and that was it. A mild tribute to Usain Bolt, and he jogged off the field.

No props, no delaying the game, no taunting anyone. Just 15-yards of joy-sucking yellow laundry. Wade Phillips argued vehemently (or at least, as vehemently as the cuddly old fellow can), but to no avail. He didn't say a word to Owens, though.

I saw it. I can see some celebrations being penalized, though I don't think Owens actions deserved a penalty.

Yeah it was absolutely fcukin retarded...they are taking the fun out of the game. I can understand promoting sportmanship but the game changes from a game when you can't enjoy the sport anymore. It has become a PC riddled piece of shyt...

I thought the TO celebration was fine. As long as they are done within last years rules: No props and single person, I have no problem. The No Fun League though has taken some of the flava out of the game.

As far as BYU... College is another story. IMO no celebration, spiking ect should be allowed. Those aren't pros and a certain level of sportsmanship should be manetained. From what I saw all the BYU QB did was throw the ball up in the air. Sucks he got his with a flag for something so innane. At the same time, he should have been more composed and waited for the extra point to go through before celebrating.

I think it ok to celebrate but then theres too much celebrating that delays the game. I though TO was alright....even though i dont care for him.

I disagree on the college tip. While I don't believe spiking or throat slashing should be allowed, I also don't believe in the idea of college players not being able to celebrate amongst teammates when getting a touchdown. I mean, is it really unsportsmanlike to celebrate amongst your teammates- or is it infact MORE Sportsmanlike because you are engaging in camaraderie amongst teammates in having achieved a common goal?
