MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Randy Couture Returns to UFC; UFC 91: Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar in Las Vegas

The UFC has announced that UFC 91 will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will feature the return of Randy Couture.

Couture will be defending his heavyweight championship belt against Brock Lesnar. The winner will fight the winner of Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Frank Mir to unify the title.

Dana White says the legal issues with Randy have been resolved.

They claim they are going to do everything in their power to book Fedor vs Couture if something can be worked out with the other promotions that Fedor has agreements with.

Randy Couture says he "would much rather fight in Octagon than any place else." He also says he hasn't enjoyed the court battles this past year. He also says he isn't concerned about ring rust at all and expects to weigh 225lbs going into the fight.

Dana White says, "Couture vs. Lesnar is the biggest fight in UFC history."

They also hinted at a possible future UFC in Virginia.

UPDATE: More details to come.

- Dana White: Brock vs. Couture will be "the biggest fight in UFC history".

- Dana White on competitors and co-promotion: ": These guys are dying on the vine. You’re not under contract if the company’s not in business anymore.

- Dana White: "I would be horrified if Affliction's still in business in January."

- Couture: would rather fight Fedor, but fight with Brock "a step in the right direction"

- Couture says UFC and he have "cleared the air"; "comfortable with way things stand right now"

- Couture says he'll weigh approximately 225lbs for this fight.

- Dana White says he doesn't know if Couture is the richest fighter in the UFC.

- Dana White: Nogueira is probably thrilled Couture is back.

- Dana White: research was done and proves Brock vs. Couture will be biggest fight in UFC history.

- Couture: re-signing with the UFC to get Fedor is "path of least resistance"

- Dana White: the heavyweight division "is looking pretty damn good now"

- Couture: MMA is the combative sport for this generation

- Couture: how can you overlook a guy [Brock Lesnar] that size?

- Dana White: over the next year we are going to see some really great heavyweight fights.

- Randy and Dana: feels good to have this problem resolved; "to see a little sunshine for a change is pretty nice"

- Dana White: "I like fighting with Tito"

- Dana White suggests Fedor might have to be not under contract for the UFC to sign a fight with him. He didn't say it was required, but he alluded to it.

- Dana White: Affliction is losing "shitloads" of money.

- Couture: biggest part of my decision was communicating with Lorenzo and Dana that I was feeling. Second was frustration with legal system. Tired of throwing money with lawyers with no end in sight. Best place for me to fight is a cage, not a court room.

- Dana White: "I'm like a giddy little girl right now"

- Dana White: "It drives me insane when Fedor is called the best p4p fighter in the world." If Fedor is the best, he has to come to the UFC eventually.

- Dana White: people don't know this, but there was bad blood between Brock and Herring. Herring was insulted he had to fight him.

- Brock Lesnar: "not a lot of people get this opportunity".

- Brock Lesnar: "who gives a shit about Fedor Emelianenko?" I'm sick and tired of sitting on the phone listening about Fedor. "Who ****ing gives a shit?"

- Dana White: "UFC Countdown" for this fight could be two or three part series.

- Dana White: this is where all the best heavyweights are. Randy Couture is relevant; Fedor is not.

- Couture: I can't spend any time worrying about losing to Lesnar and losing luster on a fight with Fedor.

- Dana White: rivals can have whichever fighters we cut.

- Dana White: Werdum is still in the mix.

- Dana White: expecting 1million to 1.5 million PPV buys for this fight. It's a new deal: 3-fight deal.

- Dana White: I would not sign a one-fight deal with Fedor.

- Dana White: all court action is dead.

- Dana White: Randy Couture is the guy everyone wants to fight. Fedor is completely irrelevant.

- Couture: Mark Cuban wants what's best for me. He just wanted to facilitiate what I wanted. Now the best path is to make the fight with Fedor happen in the UFC.

Randy’s pretty much a one dimensional wrestler; not sure how he is going to fare against a bigger and stronger wrestler..

Lol...you disregard the fact that Randy has converted his game for MMA and that he is a vet, Randy is not one-dimentional, he STOOD with Liddell and gave him the business so the guy can strike...Randy will RAPE Lesner and the only caveat to that would be if Randy came in unprepared which I doubt will happen because he (Randy) wants Fedor. I mean, c'mon guys...Randy is a top 3 Heavyweight in the world...you can't honestly believe that a guy who is 1-1 in MMA will come in and do anything but earn your respect for having stepped into the ring in the first place. He will not be beating Randy.

true but he is also 1-2 against liddell. with the exception of his win over liddell, the fights were he dominated was when he outwrestle his opponent.

Not really...he grounds um and pounds um...he isn't wrestling per say anymore so than Rich Franklin is from beyond the clinch and Rich isn't most known for his wrestling ability. Bottom line is this...Randy is more than one-dimensional, he's shown an ability to strike but his bread and butter, as you alluded, is wrestling. If his (Randy's) camp has any respect for Brocks wrestling, which I'm sure they do...they will structure a game plan around it. Brock is younger, bigger and stronger than Randy but when the chips are down, I'll take experience over those youthful characteristics. We'll find out Nov 15 but let me assure, don't hope for anything other than a beating- We've not seen Brock have to fight from his back and I'm sure he will be forced to do plenty on that night...

ground and pound which requires controlling your opponent i.e. wrestling. I do believe that Randy is the most intelligent fighter in the ufc with his body control and how he uses the cage. On the other hand, Brock did impress me with his cardio in his last fight. Either way, both will have a tough fight and there’s no way in hell I’m betting on this fight.

Yeah but having been a wrestler I expect him to always be in top condition, same with Randy, that guy is in damn good shape for a 40-something year old- credit it to wrestling, we all tend to be in GREAT shape :keke:. Yeah, should be tough as Randy will have to get around Brock's sheer size but once he's figured that out, I'm sure it will be a Couture dubya...gotta watch them hands though, that boy Brock seems to pack a helluva punch, he put Herring on queer street with a straight right...

randy is gonna kill him.
he needs to go back to where he came from, fake wrestling AKA dudes in tights' hugging.
we all know I hate that dude, so if I don't stop now this is just gonna be a post about how much I hate that guy.

Bad fight for both parties.

What if RC loses? I don't see it happening, but what if? Supposing it does, he better "exit stage left."

I am very intrigued at those who just give the fight to Les. Granted he's not an elite fighter, but he still has a truck in his right hand. One decent punch, and RC's seeing stars like he did with Chuck.

For the sake of the "sport" I hope I'm wrong, but to count out Les is not very smart.

pullin for randy! im hoping lesnar freaks out like he did against mir and slip up. spike replayed the fight randy had against tim sylvia and he controlled the whole fight. he did the same with gonzaga. he goes in with a gameplan, and forces his opponent to follow.

Randy Couture VS Brock Lessnar....what joke! :angry7:

Not even a fight, Couture is going to have his way with him! Look at Randys hit list, best fighters in the world!

Look at Brocks...dry humped, numerous acting fighters!

Dana White is a....D!ck! For even saying this is "The Fight of UFC History"!

If Lessnar actually wins, excuse me, if this fight is rigged, to let Lessnar win, just so we have a RC VS BL II! Then UFC has gone to shit, another words WWE!

everyone has a punchers chance. dont mean they deserve to be in there. it sux for the fans, just for that reason. EX: 9 out of 10 times gsp destroys serra, but because of that 1 time, we had to watch some bs fights. and serra deserved to be in there more than lesnar. thats why i hate fights like this.
