What type of work, I am in the oilfield industry now

the hardest thing to get through the job was the training cuz pay sucked. but after training i was making over 2k a month.
i think they started doing month training now. after training you start working 6 days a week, they will start you off with the easier jobs (or at least they try too) and then you start getting the high def and which pay more and all that. if you have any technical ?'s pm me

the downsides are 1) they give you a company gas card but about a month ago they started making techs pay $40/week cuz gas prices (still not a bad deal)(
2) if you want a job there i suggest getting a cell phone plan with unlimited minutes cuz you will need it, you will be on your phone literally half the day.

$2000 a month?? thats really not alot.
uh yeah it is....especially since it requires no experience, and he didn't say anything about college. It's not bad pay at all....imo.$2k a month is easy to live off comfortably and still have alot of spending money left over.
are you guys hiring in the lake jackson, or angleton area? If you know by chance, let me know.
the woodlands is a bit too far of a drive for me everyday...thanks.

yeah its pretty good money especially for me only being 19.
i believe there is an office in south houston somewhere. if you were to call, they would give you the info. they shut down the beaumont office. directv is actually an old job for me but i decided to go back and i start again this thursday.

It's all relative. To the younger guys thats a good chunk of change. To me, I'd be living under a bridge If I made that much. Either way, not bad.
When I was 19, I think I was making $2000 a month. That was great money.

+1 I agree, I cant survive off anything less than take home of 5K :thumb: Which at the moment I make more than that.
My minimal for survival right now is around $3500. Im tight on that. I'm like you, if car sales are going, Im doubling that, if its slow, thats about what I take home.
Anyhow, don't mean to thread jack my friend.

Wow......I couldn't keep gas in my truck for $5.25/ hour. When I was younger, I could live off of that, but now I'm 43 and there's the mortgage, car and truck notes, kids into sports, etc. It runs around $5,000.00/month for me to live.

In the oilfield right now, our drilling contractors are hiring pretty big for people to work on their rigs. Typical roughnecks can make about 75K/year. If you dont mind being away from home 2 weeks or 4 weeks at a time. Good pay, good travel, and cool work.

This is what i plan to do. Been working in the plants for awhile now as a Boiler maker / Pipefitter but i dont want to do it forever. Money is great but its long hours and labor intensive at times which doesnt bother me now but later, im sure ill get tired of it.
Im going back to school to get my Process Tech courses out of the way to be a plant operator and while im an operator, im going to continue school to be a Chemical Engineer. A friend of mine made over 110k last year as an operator at BP. He worked overtime but if he didnt, he still would have made 80k or so.

You know that when the shift work kicks in, it is haed as hell to go to school. Nights, days, nights, days....

Being an operator and going to school is a fairy tale. The shift work wont allow it.
