An internship whould look better on a resume, and engr internships are usually paid

Just a note, KBR is sending more and more of their CAD work to Mexico. Don't know about other companies

Amen to that,(I HATE backchecking), thats why we still have disigners in the houston office. Though they aren't highering (sp????) new ones.

No I haven't taken PDS yet but the company I'm working for now is suppose to send me to take it but they are takin their time. I would really like to get into a company piping school like Fluor or Jacobs.

This pipe drafting stuff is starting to interest me. It pays more than the mechanical drafting field I'm in! I had courses in piping awhile back but don't remember much about it. I know autocad/microstation/solidworks/inventor and have several yrs exp with valves & oilfield so I think I could adapt quickly. A newbie can make decent money too I think. What do you guys think?

youre right, from what it sounds like you know, you should be able to break into piping around 35-40 an hour. do you have any experience laying out pipe from a p&id? would you be able to pipe up a skid if you had the p&id in front of you?

Well I don't have any exp. laying out pipe from a p&id and not sure about piping up a skid either. But after I've done it once I could do it again. I had some piping courses in school way back in '02. I have worked asme/ansi standards and flanges in the valve industry and oilfield stuff. Maybe that could be helpful. I dunno. I work with subsea oilfield equipment now. The pay seemed to range between $20-$30 an hr depending on exp. for a mechanical drafter/designer with all benefits included.
