that dudes a freak on that machine.. he stretches for 30 minutes before he rides. try that next time your at the track, you might get half that low..

He does have a good lean angle on the bike, but he also has his whole ass off the side of the bike. It is a very impressive picture, all I'm saying is I've seen guys with much more lean angle and not nearly that close to the ground. That is his riding style.
+1 on the stretching before you hit the track, it's very important.

I was thinking on similar lines. he could possibly go faster if he leans the bike more, as there still is scope.

disclaimer:please dont give much thought to my 'thinking'. I am an absolute novice and he is a pro, so he surely knows tons more :icon_bigg

can we get any closer

It's all about your riding style. There are some riders that hardly get off the bike that are very fast; Ronnie Lunsford and John Haner come to mind.
IMO, if you're that far off the bike it's going to be more difficult to keep your lower body anchored well without suporting your weight with your arms. It's also going to be harder to load the outside peg as well.
If it works for Stephen that's great, however I'd recommend a less exaggerated body position. Just my 2 cents.

Spethen was just trying to see how close he could get his elbow to the ground. That isn't his usual riding position, though he does get off the bike alot.

Kind of looks like eric bostrom there, a guy known to drag elbows at the track. Nice pic!

I have to agree, he is just showing off. Wish I could come remotely close to that.
